Pharmacological action
Pharmaceutical group:
glucocorticosteroid for topical use.
Pharmaceutical action:
The corticosteroid betamethasone dipropionate has anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, anti-exudative, anti-edematous and antipruritic effects.
It inhibits the accumulation of white blood cells, the release of lysosomal enzymes and anti-inflammatory mediators in the inflammatory focus, inhibits phagocytosis, reduces vascular-tissue permeability, and prevents the formation of inflammatory edema.
Indications
-
Allergic skin diseases (including acute, subacute and chronic contact dermatitis, occupational dermatitis, seborrheic dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, sun dermatitis, neurodermatitis, pruritus, dyshidrotic dermatitis, eczema);
-
acute and chronic forms of non-allergic dermatitis;
-

Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to any of the components of the drug, bacterial, fungal skin diseases, skin tuberculosis, skin manifestations of syphilis, chickenpox, herpes simplex, post-vaccination skin reactions, open wounds, trophic ulcers of the lower leg, rosacea, acne vulgaris, skin cancer, nevus, atheroma, melanoma, hemangioma, xanthoma, sarcoma, lactation and children under 1 year of age.
With caution
Pregnancy. If used for a long time or applied on large surfaces: cataracts, diabetes, glaucoma, tuberculosis.
Side effects
Topical application of glucocorticosteroids may cause: burning sensation, irritation, dry skin, folliculitis, hypertrichosis, acne-like rashes, itching, striae, sweating, hypopigmentation, perioral dermatitis.
With prolonged use, as well as the use of occlusive dressings — maceration of the skin, secondary infection, skin atrophy, sweating, purpura, local hirsutism, telangiectasia.
When applied to large body surfaces, mainly in children, systemic side effects of glucocorticosteroids may occur (gastritis, ulceration of the gastrointestinal mucosa, hyperglycemia, glucosuria, reversible suppression of the adrenal cortex, manifestation of Cushing’s syndrome).
If you experience side effects that are not described in the instructions, you should consult a doctor.
Interaction
Interaction of the drug Akriderm with other drugs was not revealed.
How to take, course of use and dosage
Externally. Akriderm® is applied in a thin layer to the affected area of the skin 2 times a day-in the morning and in the evening. Another frequency of use can be determined by the doctor, based on the severity of the disease. In mild cases, it is sufficient to apply the cream, usually once a day; for more severe lesions, more frequent use may be required.
The duration of treatment depends on the effectiveness and tolerability of the therapy and is 2-4 weeks.
If clinical improvement does not occur, the diagnosis should be clarified.
Overdose
Acute overdose is unlikely, however, with excessive or prolonged use of the drug, a chronic overdose is possible, accompanied by signs of hypercorticism: hyperglycemia, glucosuria, reversible suppression of the adrenal cortex, manifestation of Cushing’s syndrome.
Treatment. Appropriate symptomatic treatment is indicated. In case of chronic toxic effects, gradual discontinuation of the drug is recommended.
Special instructions
If there are signs of hypersensitivity or skin irritation associated with the use of the drug, treatment should be discontinued and appropriate therapy should be selected for the patient. Systemic absorption of glucocorticosteroids is possible with prolonged treatment, when the drug is applied to extensive skin surfaces, when occlusive dressings are used, and also in children.
Children from 1 year of age are prescribed the drug only for strict indications and under medical supervision, as it is possible to develop systemic side effects associated with betamethasone. When using the drug on large surfaces and/or under an occlusive dressing, it is possible to suppress the function of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal system and develop symptoms of hypercorticism, there may be a decrease in the excretion of growth hormone, an increase in intracranial pressure.
On the skin of the face, more often than on other body surfaces, after prolonged treatment with topical glucocorticosteroids, atrophic changes may occur; the course of treatment in this case should not exceed 5 days.
Akriderm ® cream is not intended for use in ophthalmology. Avoid contact with eyes.
With prolonged use of the drug, its cancellation should be carried out gradually.
