Pharmacological action
Alpizarin has antiviral activity against DNA-containing viruses: Herpes simplex virus type I and II, Varicella zoster (shingles and chickenpox virus), cytomegalovirus. In vitro experiments have shown the inhibitory effect of Alpizarin on HIV.
The inhibitory effect of Alpizarin on viral reproduction is particularly pronounced in the early stages of the disease. The mechanism of action is realized extracellularly. The drug prevents the virus from entering the cell, disrupting its reproduction.
Indications
Alpizarin is used in adults and children in complex therapy for acute and recurrent forms of herpes simplex of extragenital and genital localization, shingles, chickenpox smallpox, viral diseases of the oral mucosa, influenza, cytomegalovirus infection, Kaposi’s eczema herpetiforme.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity.

How to take, course of use and dosage
Alpizarin ointment is applied topically 4-6 times / day; adults are prescribed 5% ointment.
The course of treatment is from 3-5 days to 3-4 weeks, depending on the form and severity of the disease.
