Composition

1 bottle of lyophilized powder contains amoxicillin (in the form of sodium salt) 1000 mg and clavulanic acid (in the form of potassium salt) 200 mg

Pharmacological action

Broad-spectrum antibiotic; contains semi-synthetic penicillin amoxicillin and beta-lactamase inhibitor clavulanic acid. Clavulanic acid provides a stable inactivated complex with these enzymes and ensures the resistance of amoxicillin to the effects of beta-lactamases produced by microorganisms.

Clavulanic acid, similar in structure to beta-lactam antibiotics, has a weak intrinsic antibacterial activity.

Amoxiclav has a wide spectrum of antibacterial action.

Active against amoxicillin-sensitive strains, including beta-lactamase-producing strains, including aerobic gram-positive bacteria:  Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes, Streptococcus viridans, Streptococcus bovis, Enterococcus spp., Staphylococcus aureus (except methicillin-resistant strains), Staphylococcus epidermidis (except methicillin-resistant strains), Staphylococcus saprophyticus, Listeria spp. ;aerobic gram-negative bacteria:  Bordetella pertussis, Brucella spp., Campylobacter jejuni, Escherichia coli, Gardnerella vaginalis, Haemophilus ducreyi, Haemophilus influenzae, Helicobacter pylori, Klebsiella spp., Moraxella catarrhalis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Neisseria meningitidis, Pasteurella multocida, Proteus spp., Salmonella spp., Shigella spp., Vibrio cholerae, Yersinia enterocolitica, Eikenella corrodens; gram-positive Anaerobes:  Peptococcus spp., Peptostreptococcus spp., Clostridium spp., Actinomyces israelii, Fusobacterium spp., Prevotella spp., Gram-negative Anaerobes:  Bacteroides spp.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to Amoxiclav.

Side effects

• nausea,
• vomiting,
• diarrhea (diarrhea)
• redness of the skin,
• rash.

Interaction

When used simultaneously Amoxiclav and indirect anticoagulants show an increase in prothrombin time. Therefore, this combination is prescribed with caution.

Concomitant use of Amoxiclav with allopurinol increases the risk of side effects such as exanthema.

When used concomitantly, Amoxiclav increases the toxicity of methotrexate. The combination of Amoxicillin with rifampicin is antagonistic (there is a mutual weakening of the antibacterial effect).

Amoxiclav should not be used simultaneously with bacteriostatic antibiotics (macrolides, tetracyclines), sulfonamides due to the possible decrease in the effectiveness of Amoxiclav. When used concomitantly, Amoxiclav reduces the effectiveness of oral contraceptives.

How to take, course of use and dosage

Amoxiclav: adults and children over 14 years of age on 1 tab. (375 mg) 3 times / day. For severe infections,1 tablet (625 mg) 3 times / day.

Children from 7 to 14 years of age: 2 teaspoons (10 ml) of suspension 3 times / day. Children from 1 to 7 years of age: 1 teaspoon of suspension 3 times a day.

Children under 1 year of age: 0.75-1.25 ml of drops or 1/2 teaspoon of suspension 3 times / day. The course of treatment with Amoxiclav is 5-14 days.

Special instructions

Caution should be exercised when prescribing Amoxiclav to patients prone to allergic reactions, as well as to patients with known hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics, as there is a risk of developing cross-sensitivity.

Simultaneous use with drugs to reduce blood clotting leads to an increase in the effect of the latter. The drug weakens the effect of aminoglycoside antibiotics. With long-term treatment, it is necessary to monitor the state of function of the hematopoietic organs, liver and kidneys.
