Composition
Active ingredients:
Polymyxin B sulfate 1,000,000 IU,
neomycin sulfate 0.5 g (equivalent to 375,000 IU)
Lidocaine hydrochloride
Pharmacological action
Anauran is a combination drug for topical application, has an antibacterial and local anesthetic effect.
Neomycin sulfate is a broad-spectrum aminoglycoside antibiotic. It acts bactericidal against gram-positive (Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus pneumoniae ) and Gram – negative (Escherichia coli, Shigella dysenteria, Shigella flexneri, Shigella boydii, Shigella sonnei, Proteus spp. ) microorganisms; it is inactive against Streptococcus spp.
Polymyxin B is a polypeptide antibiotic. It is active against gram-negative microorganisms: Escherichia coli, Shigella dysenteria, Shigella flexneri, Shigella boydii, Shigella sonnei, Salmonella typhi, Salmonella paratyphi, Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
It is active against Proteus spp., Mycobacterium spp., gram-positive cocci, fungi. It has a weak local irritant effect.
Lidocaine is a local anesthetic that quickly eliminates pain and itching.
Indications
- acute and chronic otitis externa;
- acute otitis media at the stage before perforation;
- chronic exudative otitis media;
- postoperative purulent complications after radical mastoidectomy, tympanoplasty, antrotomy, fenestration.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity.
Side effects
Possible local allergic reactions that disappear without treatment, after the withdrawal of Anauran: Hyperemia, itching and peeling of the skin of the external ear canal.
Systemic effects are unlikely due to the low doses of the drug used.
However, with prolonged treatment with Anauran, systemic effects may occur, in particular, ototoxicity and nephrotoxicity due to neomycin absorption.
Interaction
Incompatible with monomycin, streptomycin, gentamicin, amikacin, netilmycin (possible increase in the ototoxic effect of the above antibiotics).
How to take, course of use and dosage
Anauran is instilled into the external ear canal using a special pipette and held there for as long as possible (the patient keeps his head tilted to one side for several minutes).
Adults-4-5 drops 2-4 times a day, children-2-3 drops 3-4 times a day, depending on the severity of the disease.
Special instructions
Anauran is used exclusively for ear diseases.
For severe and persistent infections, local treatment should be supplemented with systemic antibiotics.
Long-term use of Anauran, as well as other antibiotics, can lead to the development of superinfection by microorganisms resistant to the drug.
