Pharmacological action
Sodium and chlorine ions are the most important inorganic components of extracellular fluid that maintain the appropriate osmotic pressure of blood plasma and extracellular fluid.
Isotonic solution makes up for the lack of fluid in the body during dehydration.
Hypertonic sodium chloride solution with intravenous use provides correction of osmotic pressure of extracellular fluid and blood plasma.
When applied topically in ophthalmology, sodium chloride has an anti-edematous effect.
