Pharmacological action

Chymotrypsin is a proteolytic agent of protein nature, has an anti-inflammatory effect, when applied topically breaks down necrotic tissues and fibrinous formations; dilutes viscous secretions, exudate, blood clots.

Indications

Thrombophlebitis, periodontal disease (inflammatory and dystrophic forms), osteomyelitis, sinusitis, otitis media, iritis, iridocyclitis, intracapsular cataract extraction, hemorrhage in the anterior chamber of the eye, periorbital edema after operations and injuries, tracheitis, bronchitis, pleural empyema, exudative pleurisy, burns, purulent wounds, bedsores (applied topically).

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity, malignant neoplasms, decompensated forms of pulmonary tuberculosis, stage II-III heart failure, cirrhosis of the liver, infectious hepatitis, pancreatitis, hemorrhagic diathesis, emphysema of the lungs, respiratory failure.

Side effects

Possible:  allergic reactions.

How to take, course of use and dosage

For intramuscular use,0.005 g of the drug is dissolved immediately before use in 1-2 ml of a sterile 0.9% sodium chloride solution or 0.5-2% procaine solution.

The course of treatment is 6-15 injections.

For respiratory diseases:  the drug is used intramuscularly in doses of 5-10 mg per day for 10-12 days, possibly combined with the use of chymotrypsin aerosol in 5% aqueous solution in an amount of 3-4 ml. After 7-10 days, the course of treatment can be repeated.

In the treatment of burns and bedsores:  Chymotrypsin in a dose of 20 mg is dissolved in 20 ml of a 0.25% procaine solution and a thin needle is injected several times under the scab.

In the treatment of purulent wounds:  on purulent wound surfaces, sterile napkins moistened with a solution of 0.025-0.05 g of chymotrypsin in 10-50 ml of 025% procaine solution are applied for 8 hours. For the treatment of purulent wounds, intramuscular injections of the drug are combined with local wound treatment with swabs moistened with a 5% aqueous solution of chymotrypsin.

With thrombophlebitis:  the drug is administered intramuscularly at 5-10 mg daily for 7-10 days.

For cataract extraction:  Chymotrypsin in a dilution of 1: 5000 is introduced into the posterior chamber of the eye, followed by washing the anterior chamber of the eye with 0.9% sodium chloride solution 4 minutes after use of the drug.

In the treatment of central retinal vein thrombosis, acute obstruction of the central retinal artery:  Chymotrypsin is administered subconjunctivally in 0.2 ml of a 5% solution prepared on 1% procaine solution 1-2 times a week.

For sinusitis:  the drug is injected into the corresponding cavity in an amount of 5-10 mg in 3-5 ml of 0.9% sodium chloride solution after puncture and washing of the cavity.

With otitis media:  instill in the ear 0.5-1 ml of 0.1% chymotrypsin solution in 0.9% sodium chloride solution.

For micro-operations on the ear to soften fibrinous formations in the middle ear:  during the operation, a 0.1% solution of chymotrypsin is injected into the cavity. At the same time, chymotrypsin should be administered intramuscularly at 2.5-5 mg 1-2 times a day.

The drug is diluted in 1-2 ml of 0.25-0.5% novocaine solution or 0.9% sodium chloride solution.

Special instructions

Do not inject into bleeding cavities, apply to ulcerated surfaces of malignant tumors.
