Pharmacological action
Clotrimazole is a derivative of imidazole. A broad-spectrum antifungal agent. The effect of the drug is associated with a violation of the synthesis of ergosterol, which is part of the fungal cell membrane, which causes a change in its structure and properties and leads to cell lysis.
Dermatophytes, yeast fungi (genus Candida, Torulopsis glabrata, genus Rhodotorula), mold fungi, as well as the pathogen Pityriasis versicolor (multicolored lichen) and the pathogen zritrasma are sensitive to clotrimazole.
In addition, it has an antimicrobial effect against gram-positive (staphylococci and streptococci) and Gram-negative bacteria (Bacteroides, Gardnerella vaginalis), as well as against Trichomonas vaginalis, Malasseria furfur, Corinebacterium minussimum.
Indications
-fungal diseases of the skin, mycoses of skin folds, feet;
– Pityriasis versicolor, erythrasma, superficial candidiasis caused by dermatophytes, yeast (including the genus Candida), mold and other fungi and pathogens sensitive to clotrimazole;
– mycoses complicated by secondary pyoderma.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to clotrimazole or excipients, first trimester of pregnancy.
Side effects
Lower gastrointestinal tract spasms, generalized erythema, rash, local allergic reactions (burning, itching).
Interaction
Amphotericin B, nystatin, natamycin reduce the effectiveness of clotrimazole when used simultaneously.
When using the cream, negative interactions with other agents are not known and should not be expected, since the resorption capacity of clotrimazole is very low.
How to take, course of use and dosage
Externally. Apply a thin layer 2-3 times a day on pre-cleaned surfaces (using neutral pH soap). and dry affected areas of the skin and gently rub.
The duration of treatment depends on the severity of the disease, the location of pathological changes and the effectiveness of therapy.
Treatment of dermatomycosis is carried out for at least 4 weeks, pityriasis versicolor-1-3 weeks.
For fungal diseases of the skin of the feet, therapy is recommended to continue for at least 2 weeks after the symptoms of the disease have been eliminated.
Special instructions
To prevent the spread of urogenital infection, simultaneous treatment of sexual partners is necessary. In trichomoniasis, other drugs that have a systemic effect (for example, metronidazole inside) should be prescribed together with clotrimazole for more successful treatment.
Vaginal tablets are not recommended for use during menstruation.
In the case of an unintended method of using the drug (orally), the following symptoms may occur: anorexia, nausea, vomiting, gastralgia, impaired liver function, rarely drowsiness, hallucinations, pollakiuria, allergic skin reactions. In these situations, it is necessary to take activated charcoal and consult a doctor.
