Composition
Active ingredient:
dimethyl sulfoxide
Pharmacological action
Dimexide is an anti-inflammatory agent that has a local analgesic and anti-inflammatory effect. It has a moderate antiseptic and fibrinolytic effect.
Dimethyl sulfoxide inhibits inflammatory tissue infiltration. In addition, dimethyl sulfoxide contributes to the normalization of fibrin formation processes, increases microcirculation in tissues, inhibits red blood cell aggregation, increases phagocyte activity, suppresses neutrophil chemotaxis, and reduces the content of circulating immune complexes.
Penetrates through the skin, mucous membranes, bacterial cell wall (increases their sensitivity to antibiotics) and other biological membranes, increases their permeability to drugs. The drug is low-toxic.
Pharmacokinetics
When applying the drug, dimethyl sulfoxide is detected in the blood serum after 8-15 minutes, and the maximum content is noted after 2-8 hours. As a rule, after 30-36 hours, dimethyl sulfoxide in the blood serum is no longer detected. Dimethyl sulfoxide does not accumulate. When applied topically, dimethyl sulfoxide penetrates the joint cavity, binds to proteins in the blood and tissues.
It is excreted from the body through the kidneys unchanged and in the form of oxidation products-dimethylsulfone and dimethylsulfate; as well as in the form of a reduced product (dimethylsulfide) is released with exhaled air.
