Active ingredient: Dimethyl sulfoxide (Dimexide) 100 ml
Pharmacological action
Anti-inflammatory agent for external use. The mechanism of action is associated with the inactivation of hydroxyl radicals and an improvement in metabolic processes in the inflammatory focus, a decrease in the speed of excitatory impulses in peripheral neurons. It has local anesthetic, local anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antimicrobial effects; it has some fibrinolytic activity. Penetrates through the skin and other biological membranes, increases their permeability to medicinal substances.
Indications
Rheumatoid arthritis, Ankylosing spondylitis, deforming osteoarthritis, scleroderma, erythema nodosum; bruises, sprains, traumatic infiltrates; inflammatory skin diseases; thrombophlebitis; acne, furunculosis (as part of complex therapy).
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Dimexide or other components of the drug;
- severe liver and kidney damage;
- angina pectoris;
- myocardial infarction;
- severe atherosclerosis;
- various types of stroke;
- glaucoma, cataracts;
- coma;
- pregnancy;
- lactation;
- children under 12 years of age.
With caution: Â due to the fact that Dimexide can increase not only the activity, but also the toxicity of certain drugs, caution should be exercised when prescribing it simultaneously with other drugs.
Side effects
Possible: allergic reactions, itchy dermatitis, contact dermatitis, erythema, dry skin, mild burning sensation. Rare: bronchospasm.
Interaction
It is possible to use dimethyl sulfoxide in combination with heparin, antibiotics and NSAIDs in dosage forms for external use. Increases the absorption and enhances the effect of ethanol, insulin. Increases the sensitivity of microorganisms to aminoglycoside and beta-lactam antibiotics, chloramphenicol, rifampicin, griseofulvin. Sensitizes the body to general anesthesia products.
How to take, course of use and dosage
Externally, in the form of compresses, tampons, dressings (including occlusive ones). Usually 30-50% solutions are used.
In the treatment of erysipelas and ulcers — 50-100 ml 30-50% solution 2-3 times a day;
eczema, scleroderma — packs with 40-50% solution;
with pustular skin diseases — 40% solution
of local anesthesia for pain syndromes — compress with 100-150 ml 25-50% solution 2-3 times a day;
in the treatment of deep burns — bandage with a 20-30% solution.
Overdose
Symptoms: Â increased dose-dependent side effects.
Treatment: Â in these cases, the drug should be discontinued, the damaged area should be washed, and the drug should be removed.
Special instructions
Dimethyl sulfoxide is used with caution at the same time as other drugs, since it can enhance their effect. Before using dimethyl sulfoxide, it is recommended to conduct a drug tolerance test.
