Composition
Active ingredient:
pyrantel pamoate equivalent to the pyrantel base 250 mg;

Pharmacological action
Pyrantel is an anthelmintic.
Blocks neuromuscular transmission in sensitive helminths.
Pharmacodynamics
It acts on helminths in the early stage of development and on mature forms, does not affect larvae in the migration stage. Active against Enterobius vermicularis, Ascaris lumbricoides, Ancylostoma duodenale, Necator americanus, Trichostrongylus orientalis, Trichostrongylus colubriformis.
Pharmacokinetics
Practically not absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract. After oral use at a single dose of 10 mg/kg of body weight, Cmax is 0.005-0.13 mcg / ml and is reached within 1-3 hours. It is partially metabolized in the liver to N-methyl-1,3-propanediamine.
It is excreted in the faeces (50% of the dose taken is unchanged) and in the urine (about 7% is unchanged and in the form of a metabolite).
Indications
Enterobiosis, ascariasis, hookworm disease, necatorosis.
Side effects
Nervous system and sensory disorders: rarely-headache, dizziness, drowsiness, insomnia, weakness; in some cases-hearing impairment, hallucinations, confusion, paresthesia.
From the digestive tract: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain; rarely-increased activity of hepatic transaminases.
Other services: skin rash, fever.
Interaction
Do not administer concomitantly with piperazine (attenuation of action).
When used concomitantly, pyrantel increases the concentration of theophylline in plasma.
How to take, course of use and dosage
The drug is administered orally during or after meals and the dosage is set individually depending on the patient’s age and body weight. Ascariasis and enterobiosis, as well as mixed infestations – once at a dose of 10 mg/kg of body weight.
Children 3 years-6 years – 250 mg (1 tablet)
Children 6 years-12 years – 500 mg (2 tablets)
Children over 12 years of age and adults weighing less than 75 kg – 750 mg (3 tablets)
Adults weighing more than 75 kg – 1000 mg (4 tablets)
The tablet should be chewed thoroughly.
Hookworm disease: the drug is prescribed at the rate of 10-mg / kg of body weight per day for 3 days.
Non-catarrhosis: in severe forms, the drug is prescribed at a dose of 20 mg/kg of body weight per day for 2 days.
Special instructions
After taking pyrantel, laxatives are not prescribed.
In case of enterobiosis, simultaneous treatment of all cohabiting persons should be carried out.
After completing treatment, it is necessary to conduct a control study of feces for the presence of parasite eggs.
It is necessary to carefully observe hygiene (cleaning of residential premises and cleaning clothes to destroy helminth eggs serves as a prevention of reinfection).
