Type of drug:

The medication is issued in foil bags, 30 bags per package. Every bag (5g) contains one dosage of gel (50 mg of testosterone).

Safety and effectiveness of Androgel:

Multiple studies showed effectiveness and safety of using Androgel to treat male hypogonadism. It was found that increased concentration of testosterone in blood after using Androgel improved sexual function, decreased resorption of bone tissue and improved quality of spontaneous and adequate erections.

Warnings:

The level of testosterone in blood should be checked in 2 weeks after the start of using Androgel. If the level of the hormone does not correspond the standards or there is no reduction of androgenic deficit symptoms, the daily dosage of Androgel may be increased from 5 g to 7.5 g. The maximum dosage can be no more than 10 g. Note that effectiveness of the drug may depend on skin condition, which can reflect on the drug’s pharmacokinetics.

Control over the liver function, blood (hemoglobin, hematocrit), prostatic specific antigen levels and prostate condition (digital rectal investigation) should be performed during the usage of Androgel.

After stopping of using Androgel the medium level of testosterone corresponds the standards during the following 24-48 hours. The testosterone level comes back to its original level only on the 4^th day after the last gel application. Concentration of estradiol and 5α dihydrotestosterone increases simultaneously with the testosterone level, which proves Androgel to be effective in all testosterone spectrums.

Directions:

Apply gel preferably in the morning on clean, dry and undamaged skin of shoulders, collarbone and/or abdomen (see the picture). Avoid the genital area as the ethanol compound of the gel may cause rash. After opening the foil bag, immediately apply a thin layer of gel and let it dry for 3-5 minutes before putting clothes on. It is not necessary to rub the gel in. Wash your hands with soap after application.

Recommended one time dosage is 5g (50 mg of testosterone) per day. A doctor should determine individual daily dosage. Note that the dosage change should be gradual and no more than by 2.5 g per day.
