Composition

Per 100 g:

Active ingredient: chondroitin sodium sulfate (in terms of dry matter) – 5.0 g;

Auxiliary substances:  dimethyl sulfoxide (dimexide), lanolin (anhydrous lanolin), vaseline (medical vaseline), purified water.

Pharmacodynamics :

Chondroitin sulfate, a high-molecular mucopolysaccharide, slows down bone resorption and reduces calcium loss. Improves phosphorocalcium metabolism in cartilage tissue. Accelerates the processes of its recovery slows down the processes of degeneration of cartilage and connective tissue. Suppresses enzymes that cause damage to cartilage tissue stimulates the synthesis of glycosaminoglycans promotes regeneration (restoration) of the articular bag and cartilage surfaces of joints increases the production of intra-articular fluid. Due to its structural proximity to heparin, it prevents the formation of fibrin clots in the synovial and subchondral microcirculation. Reduces soreness and increases mobility of affected joints. Slows down the progression of osteoarthritis.

Dimethyl sulfoxide, which is part of the ointment, has an anti-inflammatory analgesic and fibrinolytic effect and promotes better penetration of chondroitin sulfate through cell membranes.

Pharmacokinetics:

In accordance with the data obtained in experimental studies on mice using radiolabeled 3 N-chondroitin sulfate, the absorption rate of chondroitin sulfate is 14%.

Dimethyl sulfoxide, which is part of the ointment, promotes better penetration of chondroitin sulfate through cell membranes deep into tissues.

After applying the ointment to the skin, chondroitin sulfate enters the joint with reaching the maximum concentration in 30 minutes and subsequent two-phase elimination of the drug from the cartilage tissue. Completion of the rapid elimination phase occurs 1 hour after application. The drug retention time in the joint is 5 hours.

Indications

Degenerative-dystrophic diseases of the joints and spine – osteoarthritis with a predominant lesion of large joints intervertebral osteochondrosis.

Use during pregnancy and lactation

During pregnancy and lactation, Chondroitin-AKOS ointment is prescribed only after consulting a doctor and with caution, the duration of treatment is determined by the doctor.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity violation of the integrity of the skin in the places of intended application. With caution:

Do not use Chondroitin-AKOS ointment without consulting a doctor during pregnancy and lactation (breastfeeding).

Side effects

In rare cases, allergic reactions are possible, and the drug is canceled.

Interaction

There were no cases of negative drug interaction when prescribing the ointment against the background of therapy with other drugs included in the generally accepted treatment regimens for degenerative diseases of the joints and spine.

How to take, course of use and dosage

EXTERNALLY!

Chondroitin-AKOS ointment is applied 2-3 times a day to the skin above the lesion and rubbed in for 2-3 minutes until completely absorbed. The course of treatment is 2-3 weeks. If necessary, the course of treatment is repeated.

In severe cases, chondroitin sulfate preparations are prescribed simultaneously for oral use or for intramuscular injection.

Overdose

With external use of Chondroitin-AKOS ointment, overdose is unlikely (due to the lack of systemic absorption of the drug). To date, no cases of overdose of Chondroitin-AKOS ointment have been reported.

Special instructions

Avoid contact with the ointment on the mucous membranes and open wounds.

Do not use the drug without consulting a doctor under the age of 18.

Influence on the ability to drive vehicles and mechanisms:

Chondroitin-AKOS ointment does not affect the ability to drive vehicles and engage in potentially dangerous activities that require increased concentrated attention and speed of psychomotor reactions.
