Active ingredient:

• taurine – 40 mg

Auxiliary substances:

• methylparahydroxybenzoate (methylparaben) – 1 mg

• 1 M sodium hydroxide solution-up to pH 5.0-6.5,

• Water for injection-up to 1 ml

Pharmacological action

Pharmacotherapeutic group: metabolic agent.

Pharmacological properties: Taurine is a sulfur-containing amino acid formed in the body during the conversion of cysteine. It stimulates the processes of repair and regeneration in diseases of a dystrophic nature and diseases accompanied by a sharp violation of the metabolism of eye tissues.

It helps to normalize the functions of cell membranes, activate energy and metabolic processes, preserve the electrolyte composition of the cytoplasm due to the accumulation of K+ and Ca2+, and improve the conditions for conducting a nerve impulse.

Pharmacokinetics:

When applied topically, systemic absorption is low.

Indications

The drug is prescribed for adults with:

– Corneal dystrophies;

– Senile, traumatic, radiation and other types of cataracts;

– Corneal injuries (as a stimulator of reparative processes);

– Primary open-angle glaucoma in combination with beta-blockers (to improve the outflow of aqueous humor).

For all indications, the drug is used as part of complex therapy.

Use during pregnancy and lactation

Sufficient experience on the use of the drug during pregnancy, breast-feeding is not present. It is possible to use Taufon for the treatment of pregnant and lactating mothers as prescribed by the attending physician, if the expected therapeutic effect exceeds the risk of developing possible side effects.

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to taurine,
• children under 18 years of age.

Allergic reactions may occur.

Interaction

In patients with glaucoma (open-angle), a significant increase in the hypotensive effect of beta-blockers (timolol and butylaminohydroxypropoxyphenoxymethyl methyloxadiazole) in the case of combined use with Taufon was noted.

The effect is enhanced by increasing the coefficient of ease of outflow and reducing the production of watery moisture.

How to take, course of use and dosage

Locally. For cataracts, Taufon® is prescribed as instillations of 1-2 drops 2-4 times a day for three months. The course is repeated at monthly intervals.

For injuries and dystrophic diseases of the cornea, apply in the same doses for one month.

For open-angle glaucoma (in combination with butylaminohydroxypro-poxyphenoxymethyl methyloxadiazole and its combined forms or timolol) – 1-2 drops 2 times a day,15-20 minutes before the appointment of one of the antihypertensive agents, for 6 weeks, followed by cancellation for 2 weeks.

Instructions for use of the dropper tube

1. Open the IV tube by turning the lid around its axis.

2. Drop drops into the eyes by pressing on the body of the dropper tube.

3. Close the dropper tube with the lid until it stops.

Instructions for use of the dropper bottle

1. To puncture the neck, turn the cap clockwise with some effort until the lower edge of the cap stops in the body of the dropper bottle.

2. After the neck is punctured, turn the cap counterclockwise and remove it.

3. Drop drops into the eyes by pressing on the body of the dropper bottle.

4. Close the dropper bottle, put on the cap and turn it clockwise until the lower edge of the cap stops in the body of the dropper bottle.

Instructions for use of the bottle with a dropper cap

1. Remove the aluminum cap and rubber stopper from the bottle using scissors.

2. Put on the bottle a plastic cap-dropper, which is attached to the bottle, after removing the packaging from it.

3. Turn the bottle upside down and drop the drops by pressing on the body of the dropper cap.

4. Close the dropper lid with a small cap attached to the base of the dropper lid, tearing three membranes.
