Dietary supplement with venotonic and venoprotective action
Indications
- As a dietary supplement to the diet, it is a source of polyphenolic compounds (including gallic acid), escin and rutin.
- It is recommended as an additional source of flavonoids to help reduce the severity of symptoms associated with chronic venous insufficiency of the lower extremities, such as a feeling of heaviness and fatigue in the legs, tingling and swelling.
- Used to help strengthen the vascular wall of capillaries and veins, helping to reduce their permeability and fragility.
- May be used as a supportive phytocomplex to help improve microcirculation and tissue trophism.
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity or individual intolerance to any of the components of the dietary supplement, including the active ingredients or excipients in the capsule shell.
- Pregnancy and the period of breastfeeding (lactation) due to the lack of sufficient clinical data confirming safety for the fetus and infant.
- Severe renal or hepatic impairment (e.g., stage III-IV chronic kidney disease, liver failure) due to potential difficulties in metabolizing and excreting the components.
- Children and adolescents under 18 years of age, as safety and efficacy have not been established for this age group.
- Conditions associated with an increased risk of bleeding (e.g., hemophilia, thrombocytopenia, treatment with anticoagulants without medical supervision).
Dosage Regimen
| The method of application and dosage regimen for a specific drug depend on its form of release and other factors. The optimal dosage regimen is determined by the doctor. It is necessary to strictly adhere to the compliance of the dosage form of a specific drug with the indications for use and dosage regimen. |
The recommended dose for adults and children over 18 years of age is 1 capsule taken 2 times a day with meals. The capsule should be swallowed whole with a sufficient amount of water (about 150-200 ml). Do not chew the capsule.
The duration of continuous use is 2 to 3 months. If necessary, the course of use can be repeated after a 1-month break or as recommended by a healthcare professional. It is not recommended to exceed the stated daily dosage.
For optimal absorption and to minimize potential gastrointestinal discomfort, the supplement should be taken during or immediately after a meal. The use of the supplement should be part of a comprehensive approach to vascular health, which includes a balanced diet and adequate physical activity.
Adverse Reactions
Adverse reactions when using Aescucin are rare and usually mild and transient. Gastrointestinal disorders are the most commonly reported and may include nausea, a feeling of discomfort in the epigastric region, and less commonly, diarrhea or constipation. These symptoms are usually dose-dependent and often resolve on their own with continued use or after taking the supplement with food.
Allergic reactions are possible in individuals with hypersensitivity. These can manifest as skin rash, itching, urticaria, or erythema. In very rare cases, more severe systemic allergic reactions, including angioedema, may occur, requiring immediate discontinuation of the supplement and seeking medical attention.
Due to the content of escin, which has a mild anticoagulant effect, there is a theoretical risk of increased bleeding tendency or bruising, although this is extremely rare at recommended dosages. If any persistent or severe adverse effects occur, use of the supplement should be discontinued and a physician should be consulted.
Drug Interactions
The components of Aescucin, in particular escin from horse chestnut and flavonoids, may interact with certain medications. Concomitant use with anticoagulant and antiplatelet drugs (e.g., warfarin, acenocoumarol, aspirin, clopidogrel, direct oral anticoagulants) may potentially enhance their effect, increasing the risk of bleeding and bruising. Close monitoring of coagulation parameters is recommended if such a combination is necessary.
There is a theoretical possibility of interaction with antidiabetic drugs (insulin, metformin, sulfonylureas), as some flavonoids can affect blood glucose levels. Patients with diabetes should monitor their blood glucose levels more carefully when starting the supplement.
Although the risk is low, caution should be exercised when taking Aescucin concomitantly with other herbal supplements that have anticoagulant or hepatotoxic potential (e.g., ginkgo biloba, high doses of vitamin E, kava). It is important to inform your doctor about all medications and dietary supplements you are taking.
Overdose
Cases of overdose with Aescucin have not been described. However, taking a dose significantly higher than recommended may increase the risk of adverse reactions. Symptoms of overdose may include severe nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Due to the escin content, high doses may theoretically lead to toxic effects on the liver and kidneys, as well as a significant increase in the risk of bleeding.
In case of suspected overdose, immediately discontinue use of the supplement and seek medical attention. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive. There is no specific antidote. Gastric lavage or administration of activated charcoal may be considered if a very large amount has been ingested recently. It is important to inform the medical personnel about the composition of the supplement taken.
