Pharmacotherapeutic Group

Antiseptic

Pharmacological Action

An antiseptic for use in dentistry. Chlorhexidine exhibits bactericidal action (against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria) – at a temperature of 22°C (71.6°F) and exposure for 1 minute; fungicidal action at a temperature of 22°C (71.6°F) and exposure for 10 minutes; virucidal action (against lipophilic viruses). It acts on bacterial spores only at elevated temperatures.

When applied topically in dentistry, it destroys bacterial plaque and helps reduce inflammation of the oral mucosa and marginal gingiva.

Pharmacokinetics

When applied topically, it is not absorbed into the systemic circulation and does not have a systemic effect.

Indications

Treatment of mucous membranes in dentistry (rinsing and irrigation) – gingivitis, stomatitis, aphthae, periodontitis, alveolitis.

Dosage Regimen

The method of application and dosage regimen for a specific drug depend on its form of release and other factors. The optimal dosage regimen is determined by the doctor. It is necessary to strictly adhere to the compliance of the dosage form of a specific drug with the indications for use and dosage regimen.

Use the provided measuring spoon for accurate dosing.

For rinsing, measure 10-15 ml of the solution. This is approximately one tablespoon.

Rinse the mouth for 30-60 seconds. Do not swallow the solution.

Perform this procedure 2-3 times a day, following oral hygiene routines.

For gingivitis and stomatitis, apply after brushing teeth.

For periodontitis and alveolitis, use as directed by a dentist, which may include irrigation of periodontal pockets.

For treatment of aphthae, apply undiluted directly to the affected area using a cotton swab.

Avoid eating or drinking for at least 30 minutes after application to ensure efficacy.

The standard treatment course is 7-10 days, unless otherwise prescribed.

If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as possible. Do not double the dose to catch up.

Discontinue use and consult a physician if irritation or signs of an allergic reaction occur.

Adverse Reactions

Allergic reactions: skin rash, itching, severe allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis.

Local reactions: staining of tooth enamel, tartar deposition, taste disturbance.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to chlorhexidine, dermatitis.

With caution

Children, pregnancy, breastfeeding period.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

If it is necessary to use during pregnancy and breastfeeding, the expected benefit of therapy for the mother and the possible risk to the fetus should be weighed.

Pediatric Use

Use with caution in children.

Geriatric Use

The drug is approved for use in elderly patients.

Special Precautions

Avoid getting chlorhexidine into the eyes (except for a special dosage form intended for use in ophthalmology), as well as contact with the meninges and auditory nerve.

If it comes into contact with the mucous membranes of the eyes, they should be rinsed quickly and thoroughly with plenty of water.

Drug Interactions

It is used in a neutral environment; at pH 5-8 the difference in activity is small; at pH above 8, a precipitate forms.

It is not used in combination with anionic compounds, including soap.

Incompatible with carbonates, chlorides, phosphates, borates, sulfates, and citrates.

The use of hard water reduces bactericidal properties.

Compatible with medicinal products containing a cationic group (benzalkonium chloride, cetrimonium bromide).

Concurrent use with iodine is not recommended.

Storage Conditions

Store at 2°C (36°F) to 15°C (59°F). Keep in original packaging, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
