Pharmacological Action
A herbal remedy. It has a stimulating effect on the motor and secretory function of the gastrointestinal tract, has an expectorant and weak disinfectant effect, and enhances lactation.
The action is due to the components of the essential oil that is part of the fruits ( anethole – 80-90%, methylchavicol – 10%, phellandrene, pinene, dipentene, camphene, acetaldehyde, anisketone, protein, fatty oil).
Indications
- Administer for the treatment of diseases of the upper respiratory tract that are accompanied by cough to utilize its expectorant properties.
- Use in the management of intestinal diseases that present with constipation, leveraging its stimulatory effect on gastrointestinal motor and secretory functions.

Dosage Regimen
| The method of application and dosage regimen for a specific drug depend on its form of release and other factors. The optimal dosage regimen is determined by the doctor. It is necessary to strictly adhere to the compliance of the dosage form of a specific drug with the indications for use and dosage regimen. |
Prepare an infusion using one teaspoon of the fruit per cup of boiling water. Administer one-quarter cup of the prepared infusion orally, three to four times per day.
Ensure administration occurs 30 minutes before meals to optimize therapeutic effect. Adhere strictly to this dosing schedule and do not exceed the recommended frequency or volume.
Herbal raw material
Prescribe 1/4 cup of infusion (1 teaspoon of fruit per cup of boiling water) 3-4 times/day.
Take orally, 30 minutes before meals.
Adverse Reactions
Monitor for the development of allergic reactions, which may occur in some patients. Discontinue use immediately upon observation of any signs of hypersensitivity, such as skin rash, itching, or urticaria.
Contraindications
- Do not use in patients with a known hypersensitivity to anise fruit or any of the components of the preparation.
- Avoid administration in individuals with a history of allergic reactions to other plants from the Apiaceae family (e.g., fennel, caraway, coriander, dill).
Drug Interactions
Exercise caution with concurrent use of CNS depressants, as the essential oil component anethole may potentiate sedative effects. Monitor for increased effects of hormonal therapies due to potential estrogenic activity. Consult a healthcare professional before combining with other medications.
Overdose
In case of excessive intake, be aware of potential symptoms including nausea, vomiting, and seizures due to the neurotoxic effects of high doses of anethole. Immediately discontinue the preparation and initiate symptomatic and supportive care. Seek immediate medical attention for management of severe manifestations.

Whole fruits in the form of schizocarps consisting of two mericarps not separated from each other, sometimes disintegrated, sometimes with a stalk; fruits are ovoid or inversely pear-shaped, slightly flattened at the sides, wider at the base, narrowed at the apex; the surface of the fruit is rough; the outer side of the mericarp is convex, the inner side is flat; each mericarp has five weakly protruding longitudinal ribs: three of them are on the convex side, two on the sides; the mericarp contains one seed fused with the pericarp; fruit length is 3-5 mm, width is 2-3 mm; fruit color is yellowish-gray or brownish-gray; the odor is strong, aromatic; the taste of the aqueous extract is sweetish-spicy.
