Pharmacological Action

Antimony trisulfide is present in stibnite, a mineral that is the main source of antimony sulfide.

It is also currently obtained by chemical synthesis. It is a fine gray powder with metallic inclusions; insoluble in water and alcohol, soluble in potassium carbonate and alkaline sulfides.

In medicine, antimony trisulfide in low doses was used as an expectorant, and in high doses as an emetic.

Antimony affects the metabolism of carbohydrates and catecholamines by forming compounds with SH-groups of various enzymes and glutathione.

Indications

Symptoms in the gastrointestinal tract and others

• Tongue coated with a thick white coating resembling milk or chalk;
• Belching with the taste of ingested food;
• Nausea and profuse vomiting of food that does not provide relief;
• Watery diarrhea with inclusions of solid masses;
• General weakness;
• Red eyelids, red eyes;
• Cough with sputum production at night with vomiting, audible breathing at a distance.

Symptoms in the skin and integumentary tissues

• Vesicular or pustular eruptions with an impetiginized surface, especially on the face and around the mouth;
• Weeping and crusted eruptions on the scalp;
• Keratosis;
• Fissured and keratotic dermatitis;
• Hard, horny growths, especially on the palms and soles, often painful.

Gastroenterology

• Indigestion after overeating;
• Summer diarrhea or diarrhea associated with food intolerance, with characteristic changes in treatment.

Dermatology

• Impetigo;
• Weeping dermatosis;
• Infectious eczema;
• Fissured and keratotic dermatitis;
• Hard, horny skin growths;
• Horny warts.

Dosage Regimen

Sublingually.

The granules should be dissolved in the mouth 30 min before meals or 60 min after meals.

For children from 0 to 3 years old, the granules are first diluted by shaking in 10-15 ml of water at room temperature and given to drink.

The optimal amount per dose is 5 granules.
