Pharmacological Action

This complex chemical compound was isolated by Hahnemann through distillation of a mixture of slaked lime and potassium bisulfate.

Distillation allows for the separation of Causticum from a homogeneous mixture of solids (potassium hydrogen sulfate, neutralized with an excess of calcium hydroxide) and diluted with deionized water.

It is a colorless, transparent liquid with a smell of caustic potash, an astringent, sharp taste, miscible with water and alcohol.

The drug acts on four main body systems.
