Pharmacological Action
Cocculus indicus is the fruit of a shrub growing in India or Sri Lanka.
The white drupe with an unpleasantly bitter, sharp taste is hidden under a double hard and solid shell. The mother tincture is prepared from this dried fruit.
The tincture contains alkaloids and the active substance picrotoxin (a sesquiterpene lactone), which acts on the secondary receptors of the vestibular system, leading to its disorders, as well as to motor disorders.
