Dosage Regimen
| The method of application and dosage regimen for a specific drug depend on its form of release and other factors. The optimal dosage regimen is determined by the doctor. It is necessary to strictly adhere to the compliance of the dosage form of a specific drug with the indications for use and dosage regimen. |
Apply the solution topically using a cotton swab or glass rod to the affected skin areas two to four times daily.
Allow the liquid to dry completely on the skin. After drying, you may apply ointments or pastes to the treated area.
Avoid application to large skin surfaces due to the risk of systemic absorption of active components, particularly phenol.
Adverse Reactions
Local reactions at the application site may include a short-term burning sensation and pain immediately after application.
With extensive application, systemic absorption of phenol may occur, potentially leading to symptoms of toxicity such as dizziness and weakness.
The solution has a red color that may stain clothing and bedding; it also possesses a characteristic odor.
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to boric acid, resorcinol, phenol, basic fuchsin, or any other component of the preparation.
- Avoid use on large areas of skin or on severely damaged skin due to increased risk of systemic absorption and toxicity.
- Do not apply to mucous membranes or near the eyes.
Drug Interactions
Concurrent topical application with other keratolytic agents may result in excessive skin drying or irritation; use with caution.
Avoid simultaneous use with other topical antiseptics containing iodine or mercury compounds, as chemical interactions may occur.
No specific pharmacokinetic drug interactions are known; however, exercise caution when applying to large areas due to potential for systemic effects from phenol absorption.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose primarily relate to systemic absorption of phenol, especially when applied to large skin areas or denuded skin.
Observe for signs of central nervous system depression, including dizziness, weakness, tinnitus, visual disturbances, and respiratory depression.
In case of suspected overdose, immediately discontinue use and remove the preparation from the skin by washing thoroughly. Seek medical attention for supportive care as no specific antidote exists.
Special Precautions
The preparation should not be applied to large areas of the skin, because Phenol, which is part of the solution, penetrates into the blood and can cause toxic effects (dizziness, weakness).
It has a peculiar odor and red color (may stain laundry).
Storage Conditions
Store at 2°C (36°F) to 25°C (77°F). Keep in original packaging, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
