Dosage Regimen
| The method of application and dosage regimen for a specific drug depend on its form of release and other factors. The optimal dosage regimen is determined by the doctor. It is necessary to strictly adhere to the compliance of the dosage form of a specific drug with the indications for use and dosage regimen. |
The recommended dose for adults is 2 capsules per day, taken orally with meals. The capsules should be swallowed whole with a sufficient amount of water (approximately 100-150 ml).
The duration of continuous use should not exceed one month. If it is necessary to repeat the course, a break should be taken, and a second course should only be started after consultation with a doctor. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose.
The timing of administration can be adjusted based on individual response; for some, taking the dose in the evening may be preferable to support restful sleep, while for others, a morning dose may be more suitable for mood support throughout the day.
Adverse Reactions
When used at the recommended dosage, adverse reactions are uncommon. However, in rare cases or in individuals with particular sensitivity, the following may occur: allergic reactions (skin rash, itching, urticaria), dyspeptic symptoms (nausea, discomfort in the epigastric region), headache, or drowsiness.
St. John’s wort extract, one of the active components, is known to cause photosensitivity in some individuals. This means an increased sensitivity to sunlight, which can manifest as a rash or sunburn after minimal sun exposure. It is advisable to limit direct sun exposure and use sunscreen while taking this product.
If any of these or other undesirable effects occur, you should stop taking the supplement and consult a doctor.
Drug Interactions
St. John’s wort extract is a potent inducer of cytochrome P450 enzymes (particularly CYP3A4) and P-glycoprotein. This can lead to a significant decrease in the plasma concentration and therapeutic efficacy of a wide range of concurrently administered medications.
Extreme caution and medical supervision are required when taking this supplement with the following drugs: anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin), anticonvulsants (e.g., carbamazepine, phenobarbital), antidepressants (SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOIs, tricyclics), immunosuppressants (e.g., cyclosporine, tacrolimus), some antiretroviral drugs (e.g., indinavir), digoxin, theophylline, and oral contraceptives (reduced contraceptive effect and risk of breakthrough bleeding).
The combination with other serotonergic agents, including other dietary supplements like tryptophan or SAM-e, increases the risk of developing serotonin syndrome, a potentially life-threatening condition characterized by agitation, confusion, rapid heart rate, high blood pressure, dilated pupils, and loss of muscle coordination.
Overdose
In case of a significant overdose (taking a dose many times higher than recommended), symptoms associated with the potentiation of the product’s effects may occur. These may include severe drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and signs of serotonin syndrome (agitation, tremor, sweating, hyperthermia).
There is no specific antidote. In case of suspected overdose, immediately discontinue the supplement and seek urgent medical attention or contact a poison control center. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive. It is important to inform the medical staff about all the ingredients of the product taken.
To prevent overdose, strictly adhere to the recommended dosage and keep the product out of the reach of children.
