Pharmacological Action

Hepar sulfur calcareum is a grayish powder with a hydrogen sulfide odor. The substance is almost insoluble in water and alcohol and enters into chemical reactions similar to sulfur and calcium.

Indications

Key symptoms for prescribing the drug

  • Purulent inflammation;
  • Hypersensitivity to pain (intolerance of any touch to the inflamed area) and cold;
  • Sensation of painful pulsation;
  • Increased sensitivity of the scalp to touch;
  • Ear pain when blowing the nose;
  • Sore throat radiating to the ears.

Main cases of clinical application

Hepar sulfur is indicated primarily for inflammatory processes and/or suppuration of any location.

In acute pathology, a common sign is increased sensitivity of the affected areas and improvement with local application of heat.

In chronic pathology, in the presence of suppuration, a common sign is an unpleasant odor of pus.

Dermatology

  • Furuncles, abscesses, carbuncles, hidradenitis, impetigo, and pustular eruptions. The prescription method must be followed precisely, on the one hand, due to the opposite action of low and high potencies, and on the other hand, depending on the stage of suppuration:
    • C5 potencies promote pus discharge or abscess formation;
    • C30 potencies promote pus resorption;
    • C9 potencies act depending on the clinical stage.

For this reason, low potencies of Hepar sulfur should not be used if suppuration occurs in a closed cavity or with insufficient pus drainage.

The frequency of administration depends on the prescribed potency and the intended goal.

  • Pustular acne;
  • Herpes;
  • Chronic cutaneous staphylococcal infection;
  • Ulcers of the lower extremities, hypersensitive to touch, easily bleeding, with possible purulent discharge.

Otorhinolaryngology

  • Acute hyperalgesic laryngitis, hoarseness, dull and “barking” cough after severe hypothermia; profuse sweating does not relieve the patient;
  • Rhinitis and mucopurulent rhinopharyngitis;
  • Adenoiditis;
  • Erythematous-purulent tonsillitis;
  • Purulent rhinosinusitis, chronic sinusitis, exacerbated in winter and by cold;
  • Acute otitis media, otorrhea.

Pulmonology

  • Tracheobronchitis with a dry and dull cough, which then becomes productive; cough worsens at the beginning and end of the night, from cold air, cold drinks, hypothermia;
  • Catarrhal tracheobronchitis;
  • Bronchitis causing dyspnea, with a tendency to superinfection, bronchiectasis.

Dentistry

  • Dental abscess (suppuration should be drained as soon as possible);
  • Prevention of odontogenic infections, except for the prevention of infectious endocarditis.

Ophthalmology

  • Purulent conjunctivitis;
  • Stye;

Pediatrics

  • Infantile diarrhea (sticky, greenish stools with a sharp odor);
  • Purulent processes;
  • Behavioral disorders.

Urology

  • Prevention of recurrences of chronic prostatitis.

Gynecology

  • Prevention of recurrences of endometritis.

Other uses

  • Chronic foci of infection resistant to antibiotic therapy.
