Pharmacological Action
An antiseptic agent from the group of oxidants. It also has a hemostatic effect.
When hydrogen peroxide comes into contact with damaged skin and mucous membranes, active oxygen is released, resulting in mechanical cleansing and inactivation of organic substances (proteins, blood, pus).
The antiseptic action of hydrogen peroxide is not sterilizing; its use only leads to a temporary reduction in the number of microorganisms.
Indications
- For mechanical cleansing and disinfection of purulent wounds, superficial wounds, and posttraumatic wound infections.
- As a hemostatic agent for the management of capillary bleeding from superficial wounds and for the control of nosebleeds (epistaxis).
- For the adjunctive treatment of inflammatory conditions of the mucous membranes, including stomatitis, tonsillitis (both acute and chronic), and for certain gynecological inflammatory diseases.
- For the deodorization of wounds and infected surfaces.

Dosage Regimen
| The method of application and dosage regimen for a specific drug depend on its form of release and other factors. The optimal dosage regimen is determined by the doctor. It is necessary to strictly adhere to the compliance of the dosage form of a specific drug with the indications for use and dosage regimen. |
Apply externally and topically only. The specific regimen is individualized based on the indication and the severity of the condition being treated.
For external application to wounds and skin, use the 3% solution as supplied. For oral rinsing and gargling, a diluted 0.25% solution must be prepared prior to use; do not use the concentrated solution directly on mucous membranes.
Adverse Reactions
A transient, mild burning sensation upon application to the wound is commonly observed and typically resolves quickly.
In rare instances, allergic reactions, including skin irritation, redness, or rash, may occur. Discontinue use if signs of a hypersensitivity reaction develop.
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to hydrogen peroxide or to any of the excipients in the formulation.
- Do not use for irrigation of closed body cavities or for deep, tunneling wounds due to the risk of gas embolism.
- Avoid use in procedures involving the middle ear or other enclosed anatomical spaces where oxygen gas release could lead to pressure-related complications.
Use in Pregnancy and Lactation
It can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding according to indications, in recommended doses.
Special Precautions
Do not use for irrigation of body cavities.
It is not recommended to use the agent under occlusive dressings.
Drug Interactions
The solution is chemically incompatible and unstable when mixed with alkalis, salts of certain metals, and complex radicals of other oxidants.
Avoid contact with iodine-containing antiseptics and permanganates, as this may lead to chemical decomposition. Protect the solution from light and heat, which accelerate its degradation to water and oxygen.
Overdose
Ingestion of concentrated solutions or large volumes can cause severe gastrointestinal irritation, including burns, pain, vomiting, and hematemesis.
Gas embolism is a life-threatening complication that may occur if the solution is introduced into closed body cavities or abscesses. In case of accidental ingestion or suspected embolism, seek immediate medical attention; do not induce vomiting.
Storage Conditions
Store at 15°C (59°F) to 25°C (77°F). Keep in original packaging, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
