It is necessary to strictly adhere to the compliance of the dosage form of a specific drug with the indications for use and dosage regimen. |
Insert one suppository deeply into the vagina 10 to 15 minutes before each sexual intercourse to allow for complete dissolution and distribution.
For repeated intercourse, insert a new suppository each time. The protective effect is limited to approximately one hour after insertion. Do not douche for at least 6 hours after the last intercourse.
Suppositories
Apply intravaginally.
Adverse Reactions
Local reactions are possible, including increased vaginal discharge, itching, and burning in the vagina and/or on the partner’s penis. Vaginal dryness and painful urination may occur.
Allergic reactions, such as skin rash and urticaria, are also possible. Discontinue use if severe irritation or signs of hypersensitivity develop.
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to nonoxinol or any component of the suppository.
- Presence of vaginal bleeding of unknown origin.
- Anomalies in the development of the genital organs.
- Active vaginal infections, including vaginitis, cervicitis, or endometritis.
- Ulceration, irritation, or erosion of the vaginal mucosa or cervix.
Use in Pregnancy and Lactation
Nonoxinol is a contraceptive and is not used during pregnancy. During breastfeeding, it can be used as indicated in cases where the expected benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the infant.
Geriatric Use
Not intended for use in the elderly.
Special Precautions
The product can be used for a long time.
The product can be used in combination with a condom.
Drug Interactions
Any other intravaginally administered medication may physically interfere with the distribution of the suppository and reduce its spermicidal effect.
Concurrent use of soaps or detergent-based solutions for vaginal douching can inactivate nonoxinol and compromise contraceptive efficacy. Avoid douching for at least 6 hours post-coitus.
Overdose
No specific antidote exists. Accidental ingestion is unlikely to cause systemic effects due to low absorption. In case of significant local irritation from excessive use, discontinue treatment and consult a physician. Treatment is supportive and symptomatic.
Storage Conditions
Store at 2°C (36°F) to 25°C (77°F). Keep in original packaging, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
