Dietary supplement for supporting visual function
Properties
The dietary supplement Ocuvite® kids is a multicomponent product containing Lutein, Zeaxanthin, Anthocyanins from bilberry fruit extract (Vaccinium myrtillus), Taurine, B vitamins (B1, B3/PP, B5, B6, B9, B12), vitamins D3, C, E, as well as Zinc and Selenium, for comprehensive support of eye health during a child’s development.
It is very important to provide children with a reliable set of measures during periods of increased stress and strain, which includes proper workplace lighting, controlled eye strain, regular eye exercises, and intake of vitamins and trace elements needed to maintain healthy vision.
The components of the complex provide protection for the visual apparatus, have an antioxidant effect, and reduce the risk of eye diseases in children.
Properties of the components
Lutein, Zeaxanthin. Lutein accumulates in the central (macular) area of the retina and the lens. Lutein and Zeaxanthin function as a light filter and protect important eye structures from the effects of the most aggressive blue part of the daylight spectrum. Being powerful antioxidants, Lutein and Zeaxanthin can neutralize the action of free radicals and prevent the destruction of retinal cells.
Bilberry fruit extract (Vaccinium myrtillus) contains Anthocyanins, which are involved in the synthesis and restoration of the light-sensitive pigment rhodopsin and thus improve adaptation to different light levels, enhancing visual acuity in twilight. Anthocyanins also reduce eye fatigue when working at a computer.
Taurine is an amino acid necessary for the retina. At night, Taurine accumulates and is consumed during bright light or eye strain. Therefore, Taurine is necessary for eye fatigue. It helps normalize metabolic processes in eye tissues.
Vitamin E accelerates the regeneration of damaged cells, participates in tissue respiration and other vital metabolic processes. It prevents increased fragility and permeability of capillaries.
Vitamin C increases the effectiveness of antioxidants (lutein, zeaxanthin, anthocyanins), which accelerates the restoration of visual pigments in the retina.
Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) regulates the metabolism of calcium and phosphorus in the body, increases calcium absorption in the intestines, and promotes the formation of the skeleton and teeth in children. It has an important influence on brain development and functioning. Vitamin D3 is also important for immune system formation.
B vitamins (B1, B3/PP, B5, B6, B9, B12) are necessary for normal metabolic processes to occur in eye tissues and cells.
Vitamin B1 (thiamine) plays an important role in carbohydrate, protein, and fat metabolism, is necessary for energy production and normal functioning of nerve cells. It ensures the conduction of nerve impulses. Thiamine has a positive effect on cognitive functions and learning activity.
Vitamin B3 as a coenzyme participates in redox reactions of energy metabolism, is necessary for the growth and maintenance of CNS functioning, promotes the differentiation of nerve cells and their survival.
Vitamin B5 participates in protein, fat, and carbohydrate metabolism, is involved in amino acid metabolism processes, and also helps maintain the functioning of the immune and nervous systems.
Vitamin B6 participates in the conversion of amino acids, lipids, and nucleic acids, in maintaining the immune response, its significance is particularly great for the synthesis of neurotransmitters, and it is necessary for the normal functioning of the nervous system.
Vitamin B9 as a coenzyme participates in the metabolism of nucleic acids and amino acids. This vitamin is required for the development and normal functioning of the CNS.
Vitamin B12 participates in protein synthesis, nucleic acids and DNA, is important for cell division and growth, for maintaining the functioning of nerve cells, and for the proper functioning of the nervous system.
Zinc is found in the retina, choroid, and iris of the eyes, and participates in the synthesis of protein molecules. Zinc is involved in color perception processes. Zinc deficiency can lead to reduced color perception.
Selenium– an antioxidant trace element. It is part of the enzyme glutathione peroxidase and determines its activity, protecting the intracellular structures of eye tissues from the destructive action of harmful oxygen radicals.
Positive effect on body functions
The progression of myopia in childhood and adolescence increases significantly with age, increasing duration and intensity of visual loads. When complications arise, the main protective role is played by the body’s own antioxidant system. A low antioxidant status is associated with impaired trace element balance, deficiency of vitamins C, A, E and, especially importantly, carotenoids: lutein and zeaxanthin. In this regard, leading pediatric ophthalmologists in Russia currently recommend daily intake of lutein and zeaxanthin as part of complex vision preparations.
In order to maintain good vision from childhood, a person must receive at least 5 mg of lutein daily with food – approximately the amount contained in 250 g of spinach or 500 g of bell pepper. However, our usual diet contains less than 20% of the norm.
It is important that a preparation for supporting and preserving visual functions contains, in addition to lutein, other vitamins and minerals necessary for vision.
The dietary supplement Ocuvite® kids is a source of lutein, zeaxanthin, vitamins and trace elements, and helps improve the functional state of the visual apparatus during body development, when working at a computer, and during increased eye strain.
