Pharmacological Action
Mayapple grows in moist forests in the eastern part of the United States and Canada.
This is a perennial plant with a horizontal rhizome, two petiolate leaves, a flower, and fruits.
Its dry rhizome is used.
The active substances consist mainly of a resin, podophyllin, which contains lignans; they are found either in a free state or as glycosides (podophyllotoxin, alpha-peltatin, beta-peltatin).

The granules should be dissolved in the mouth 30 minutes before a meal or 60 minutes after a meal.
For children from 0 to 3 years old, the granules are first dissolved by shaking in 10-15 ml of water at room temperature and given to drink.
