Pharmacological Action
A preparation for external use. Suppresses the secretion of sebaceous and sweat glands.
At low concentrations, it has a keratoplastic effect, and at high concentrations, it has a keratolytic effect.
It has weak antimicrobial activity. It helps to soften and detach the keratinized layer of the epidermis.
Pharmacokinetics
Salicylic acid is metabolized in the liver to form metabolites of salicyluric acid and salicylate glucuronides.
Salicylic acid and its metabolites are excreted primarily by the kidneys.
Indications
Monotherapy and as part of combination therapy in the treatment of inflammatory and infectious skin diseases (acne vulgaris, oily seborrhea, chronic eczema, pityriasis versicolor); burns, hyperkeratosis.

Dosage Regimen
| The method of application and dosage regimen for a specific drug depend on its form of release and other factors. The optimal dosage regimen is determined by the doctor. It is necessary to strictly adhere to the compliance of the dosage form of a specific drug with the indications for use and dosage regimen. |
Solution
For external use. The affected skin surface is treated with an alcohol solution 2-3 times/day.
The maximum daily dose for adults is 10 ml, for children – 1 ml.
The course of treatment is no more than 1 week.
Ointment
For external use. Apply a thin layer to the affected areas of the skin 1-2 times/day.
It can be used under a sterile napkin or bandage, which is changed once every 2-3 days until complete cleansing from purulent-necrotic masses.
The course of treatment is individual and depends on the severity of the disease.
Adverse Reactions
Rarely local reactions in the form of itching, burning, skin rash, allergic reactions.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to salicylic acid; renal failure; pregnancy, breastfeeding period; childhood – depending on the dosage form.
Use in Pregnancy and Lactation
Contraindicated for use during pregnancy and lactation (breastfeeding).
Use in Renal Impairment
Contraindicated for use in renal failure.
Pediatric Use
Use in children of appropriate age categories is possible strictly according to indications, in recommended doses and dosage forms.
It is necessary to strictly follow the instructions in the instructions for salicylic acid preparations regarding contraindications for use in children of different ages for specific dosage forms of salicylic acid.
Special Precautions
Salicylic acid preparations should not be applied to birthmarks, hairy warts, warts in the genital and facial areas.
When treating children, it is necessary to avoid treating several areas of the skin at the same time.
If it gets on the mucous membranes, the corresponding area should be rinsed with plenty of water.
It should be taken into account that in skin diseases occurring with hyperemia and inflammation or with superficial weeping lesions, an increase in the absorption of salicylic acid is possible.
Drug Interactions
Salicylic acid may increase the permeability of the skin to other topical drugs and thereby enhance their absorption.
Absorbed Salicylic acid may enhance the side effects of methotrexate and oral hypoglycemic drugs, sulfonylurea derivatives.
Salicylic acid is pharmaceutically incompatible with resorcinol (forms melting mixtures) and zinc oxide (forms insoluble zinc salicylate).
Storage Conditions
Store at 2°C (36°F) to 25°C (77°F). Keep in original packaging, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
