Lasix (active component is furosemide) is one of the most powerful loop diuretics.
In medical practice Lasix is used for severe poisoning when poisoning substance has not yet reached blood and can be removed with water.
Lasix is used in case of sudden blood pressure hike due to the excessive water retention in organism. Furosemide signals to organism about the emergent need to excrete intracellular and intercellular water.
Thus, bodybuilders muscle definition may not be properly seen due to the subcutaneous water, although they have low level of subcutaneous fat. Diuretics help remove the water out of organism and increase visibility of muscles.
Sportsmen and bodybuilders use diuretics only for a short period of time. Professional sportsmen, participating in competitions with weight limits, can use these drugs in order to lose weight by removing excessive water.
Since the weigh procedures usually happen a couple days before competitions, sportsmen can significantly lose weight by using diuretics and come back to their original weight during a couple hours after the treatment is complete. It gives advantage in competitions by allowing the sportsmen compete in their original heavy weight. The practice of losing weight has become popular in these types of sports.
Bodybuilders use diuretics when preparing for competitions as well. The drugs like Furosemide allow lose subcutaneous water and increase body structure visibility, which is important in competitive bodybuilding.
Do you remember “Olympia 2001”? Sudden body shape improvement of Ronnie Coleman in the final part of the competition was caused by furosemide. The excessive water was removed out of the subcutaneous layers. During the last 20-25 years diuretics have remained essential part of the bodybuilding competitions.
Diuretics may be used when excessive water accumulates in organism due to taking of anabolic steroid drugs.
Another area of Lasix application is to mask presence of the doping drugs in organism.
Furosemide is issued in two forms: tablets with 20mg and 40 mg of active ingredient in each tablet; or, solution for intravenous injections. The latest is more powerful due to the high concentration of active ingredient and it acts faster as it “dries out” the organism momentarily.
