Pharmacological Action
Colloidal silicon dioxide is an amorphous, light, fine white powder consisting of particles approximately 15 nm in size, practically insoluble in water.
In low concentrations, it has a vasoprotective effect.
Indications
Key symptoms for prescribing the drug
- Protracted inflammatory processes resulting in suppuration;
- Adhesions, indurations;
- Acute, stabbing neuralgic pains, often accompanying the inflammatory process;
- Sensation of a “splinter” or “thorn”;
- General hyperesthesia:
- Startling from the slightest noise (the patient cannot be touched or approached);
- Sensitivity to cold, especially of the scalp;
- Sensation of cold in the affected areas.
Main cases of clinical application
Otorhinolaryngology
- Recurrent rhinosinusitis or rhinopharyngitis developing in winter;
- Prevention of recurrent tonsillitis in winter;
- Chronic otorrhea, eustachitis.
Such diseases are often accompanied by multiple adenopathies with involvement of small lymph nodes, sometimes with calcification.
- Ozena (fetid rhinitis).
Medicines most often used with Silicea
- Pulsatilla (for mucous membrane infections);
- Thuja occidentalis (for recurrent infections);
- Natrum muriaticum and Tuberculinum (for general condition disorders).
Ophthalmology
- Blepharitis with purulent discharge;
- Recurrent stye, dacryocystitis.
Pulmonology
- Prevention of respiratory tract infections, with recurrences in the cold season
- Chronic bronchitis;
- Bronchiectasis, consequences of tuberculosis, pleurisy;
- Silicosis, pneumoconiosis, pulmonary fibrosis
Urology
- Chronic cystitis with pyuria;
- Prostatitis and chronic urethritis.
Gynecology
- Chronic vaginitis, metritis and salpingitis, persisting despite treatment.
Dermatology
- Chronic recurrent purulent processes: furuncles, impetigo, pustular acne, carbuncles, felon, complications of BCG vaccination, weeping dermatoses.
In the final stage of acute suppuration, the drug can be prescribed in higher potencies.
- Necrosis of interdigital spaces, worsening with excessive sweating.
Rheumatology
- Epiphysitis during growth periods;
- Delayed formation of callus in fractures;
- Osteopenia;
- Coccydynia;
- Rickets (as an adjunct to vitamin therapy);
- Osteitis of the phalanges of the fingers;
- Inflammatory or purulent arthritis and osteoarthritis;
- Osteitis and osteomyelitis with fistula formation;
- Algodystrophy.
Calcarea carbonica is the remedy most often used simultaneously with Silicea.
Dentistry
- Periodontitis, alveolar pyorrhea;
- Periodontal infection;
- Deterioration of general condition due to oral focal infection;
- Multiple and early caries due to dental enamel dysplasia.
Gastroenterology
- Atonic constipation with difficult defecation;
- Diarrhea in malabsorption syndrome.
Parasitology
- Enterobiasis with spasmodic cough, abdominal pain, somnambulism and/or enuresis, worsening during the new moon.
Behavioral Disorders
- Mental exhaustion syndrome associated with failures and a state of depression;
- Attention and memory disorders;
- Asthenia accompanied by an inability to complete started tasks;
- Sleep disorders with abrupt awakenings (jumping up) and somnambulism;
- Fear (including of public speaking) and shyness (in the sensitive type);
- Chronic headaches, including with localization in the occipital region (occurring most often in students with overwork):
- With a sensation of “bursting” (improvement occurs with the application of a tight bandage or heat);
- With local hypersensitivity of the scalp skin
Other Indications
- Excessive use of antibacterial agents or immunosuppressants and vaccination involving cellular immunity often necessitates the use of Silicea in sensitive patients with purulent diseases;
- Increased sensitivity of the extremities to cold, manifested as cyanosis;
- Atherosclerosis with calcification of arterial walls is an indication that should also be considered (improvement was observed with the use of silicon water in medical spa centers).
Dosage Regimen

Sublingually.
The granules should be dissolved in the mouth 30 min before meals or 60 min after meals.
For children from 0 to 3 years old, the granules are first diluted by shaking in 10-15 ml of water at room temperature and given to drink.
The optimal amount per dose is 5 granules.
