Pharmacological Action

Sulfur iodatum (iodine sulfide) is obtained by mixing four parts of iodine and one part of washed sublimated sulfur. The substance contains 75-82% iodine. It is practically insoluble in water and soluble in alcohol. The preparation is a dark gray mass containing shiny flakes with a strongly pronounced odor of iodine.

Sulfur iodatum promotes the resorption of some subacute or chronic inflammations of the skin, mucous membranes (especially of the respiratory tract), and serous membranes (pleura and synovial membranes); it has an effect on the cardiovascular system (in particular on symptoms such as hot flashes, increased heart rate, morning tachycardia).
