Dietary supplement – additional source of bifidobacteria

Properties

Symbiosys Alfa is a probiotic containing the unique strain of live bacteria Bifidobacterium longum longum 35624®.

The strain was isolated and studied in numerous research studies over 15 years in Cork (Ireland) by Alimentary Health Limited and the Microbiota Institute of the Alimentary Pharmabiotic Centre (APC), which is one of the world’s leading institutes in the field of digestive health.

Bifidobacterium longum longum 35624® has a targeted action on the intestine.

It is a natural bacterial strain included in physician guidelines for probiotics worldwide.

According to WHO recommendations, the demonstrated benefits of the probiotic apply only to this specific strain, and not to the general genus or species, nor to probiotics as a whole.

Intestinal Microbiota

Symbiosys Alfa contains the unique targeted-action probiotic Bifidobacterium longum longum 35624®, which helps address a number of issues related to changes in the composition of the microbiota (microflora).

The gut microbial community is a powerful system consisting of more than 1000 bacterial species that are essential for the balanced functioning of the gastrointestinal tract.

Working together, these tiny microorganisms take care of our well-being, maintain internal balance, and provide energy.

This microbial community is called the “intestinal microbiota” or gut microflora, and it makes a significant contribution to our body’s functions.

The intestinal microbiota regulates the body’s digestive, metabolic, immune, and neurological functions.

Despite the diversity of the adult human microbiome, four main types of bacteria can be distinguished: Firmicutes, Bacteroidetes, Proteobacteria, and Bifidobacterium.

The latter are an important part of the microbiome (microflora).

Bifidobacteria constitute the predominant part of the anaerobic flora in childhood and remain with us throughout life, gradually decreasing in quantity.

Maintaining the level of bifidobacteria plays a very important role in ensuring the balance of the intestinal microbiota (microflora) and the normal functioning of the body’s systems.

The level of bifidobacteria directly depends on dietary preferences, level of physical activity, use of certain medications, and a number of other external factors.

Changes in the level of bifidobacteria can influence a number of diseases and functional disorders, such as intestinal disorders (irritable bowel syndrome – IBS), metabolic syndromes (e.g., diabetes, obesity), inflammatory diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, and even psychological disorders.

Bifidobacteria and Diet

Bifidobacteria are capable of increasing the activity of proteins responsible for suppressing appetite and reducing blood glucose levels.

At the same time, a diet high in fat can lead to changes in the balance of the intestinal microflora and a decrease in the number of bifidobacteria.

A drop in the level of bifidobacteria can affect metabolic processes, leading to obesity.

Low levels of bifidobacteria are recorded in individuals with obesity and type 2 diabetes compared to people with normal or low body weight.

Exercise and a low-fat, low-digestible carbohydrate diet aimed at weight loss also do not guarantee a balanced intestinal microbiota (microflora), and often can also lead to a decrease in those same representatives of the microflora and, as a result, to manifestations of intestinal dysbiosis (discomfort, bloating, gas, stool disorders).

Bifidobacteria and Stress

Recent scientific research suggests a link between sleep quality, the composition of the gut microbiome (microflora), and cognitive abilities in healthy people.

It is believed that certain strains of bifidobacteria have a positive effect on the daily psychological status of healthy people, as well as on recovery from stress.

Bifidobacteria and Beauty

The development of a number of skin problems, including acne, is associated with the colonization of the intestine by opportunistic microorganisms and a drop in the level of “beneficial” lacto- and bifidobacteria.

It has been established that as the severity of acne increases, the content of lacto- and bifidobacteria in the intestine decreases, while the content of opportunistic bacteria increases.

An inverse relationship was shown between the content of lacto- and bifidobacteria in the intestine and Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes) on the skin, which is one of the main causes of acne.

Bifidobacteria and Intestinal Discomfort

Periodically occurring intestinal discomfort can significantly affect a person’s quality of life.

Intestinal discomfort may be associated with an imbalance of the intestinal microbiota and be accompanied by a feeling of fullness, bloating, increased gas production, and digestive disorders.

This, in turn, may indicate that the intestine is “irritated”.

The use of probiotics containing bifidobacteria helps restore the balance of the microbiota and reduce gastrointestinal discomfort.

Using the required amounts of specially selected microorganism strains, such as Bifidobacterium longum longum, strain 35624®, which is a component of the dietary supplement Symbiosys Alfa, can help restore microbiota balance and reduce the manifestations of an irritated bowel.

Bifidobacteria and Immunity

Recent research has shown that a number of bifidobacteria strains have an immunomodulatory effect and can influence not only local immunity but also factors of systemic immunity; in particular, positive experience has been obtained in chronic fatigue syndrome, where bifidobacteria played a role in relation to systemic immunity indicators.
