Pharmacological Action

Herbal preparation.

The fruits of Viburnum opulus have a general tonic and diaphoretic effect, are a source of vitamins K and C, and exert antispasmodic, hypotensive, hypolipidemic, and diuretic actions.

The bark of Viburnum opulus contains tannins (not less than 4%) and salts of organic acids. It exerts antifibrinolytic, hemostatic, uterotonic, anti-inflammatory, astringent, antispasmodic, sedative, hypolipidemic, diuretic, and cardiotonic actions.

Indications

For the use of Viburnum opulus fruits: ARVI, common cold, convalescence period – as part of complex therapy.

For the use of Viburnum opulus bark: metrorrhagia; gingivitis, stomatitis, periodontosis; hypercholesterolemia.

Dosage Regimen

The method of application and dosage regimen for a specific drug depend on its form of release and other factors. The optimal dosage regimen is determined by the doctor. It is necessary to strictly adhere to the compliance of the dosage form of a specific drug with the indications for use and dosage regimen.

The syrup or decoction from Viburnum opulus fruits is taken orally. The syrup is prescribed for adults – 15 ml 3-5 times/day, for children aged 7-16 years – 10 ml 3-5 times/day, for children under 7 years of age – 5 ml 3-5 times/day.

To prepare a decoction, 2-4 tablespoons of the fruits are poured with 500 ml of hot water, infused in a thermos for 1-2 hours, and taken 100 ml 3 times/day.

The decoction of Viburnum opulus bark (10:200) is taken orally, 15 ml 3 times/day.

Gastric and duodenal ulcer, pancreatitis (acute phase), hypersensitivity to the herbal remedy.

Storage Conditions
