Dosage Form, Packaging, and Composition

Capsules soft gelatinous, oblong in shape with a seam, elastic, red in color; the capsule contents are an oily suspension of red color, with a non-rancid odor.

Excipients: beeswax, purified lecithin, sunflower oil.

Capsule shell composition: gelatin, glycerol, methylparaben, propylparaben, purified water, titanium dioxide, Allura Red AC dye (E129).

Pharmacological Action

The pharmacological activity of the drug Antioxycaps is due to the combined action of the vitamins it contains: beta-carotene, alpha-tocopherol, and ascorbic acid.

Betacarotene has pronounced antioxidant properties and protects cells from damage by active oxygen and free radicals (by fixing active oxygen, it interrupts chain free-radical reactions and protects macromolecules and cell biomembranes from damage, thereby ensuring an increase in the body’s resistance to various pathogenic influences). It participates in the process of normal renewal of epithelial tissues. It protects the skin from the harmful effects of ultraviolet rays, has an antixerophthalmic effect, exerts a normalizing influence on the formation and functions of epithelial tissues and increases their resistance to infections, and increases the body’s antitumor resistance. Partially, it is converted in the body into retinol, which is necessary for the normal functioning of the retina (ensures the conversion of opsin into rhodopsin, the pigment that provides night vision).

Alpha-Tocopherol is a fat-soluble vitamin, the function of which remains not fully understood. As an antioxidant, it inhibits the development of free-radical reactions, prevents the formation of peroxides that damage cellular and subcellular membranes, which is important for the development of the organism, the normal function of the nervous and muscular systems. Together with selenium, it inhibits the oxidation of unsaturated fatty acids (a component of the microsomal electron transfer system), prevents hemolysis of erythrocytes. It is a co-factor of some enzyme systems.

Ascorbic acid (vitamin C) is not formed in the human body and comes only from food.

Pharmacological effects: in amounts significantly exceeding the daily requirement (90 mg), it has almost no effect, except for the rapid elimination of symptoms of hypo- and avitaminosis (scurvy).

Physiological functions: it is a co-factor of some hydroxylation and amidation reactions – it transfers electrons to enzymes, supplying them with a reducing equivalent. It participates in the hydroxylation reactions of proline and lysine residues of procollagen with the formation of hydroxyproline and hydroxylysine (post-translational modification of collagen), the oxidation of lysine side chains in proteins with the formation of hydroxytrimethyllysine (in the process of carnitine synthesis), the oxidation of folic acid to folinic acid, the metabolism of drugs in liver microsomes, and the hydroxylation of dopamine to form norepinephrine.

It increases the activity of amidation enzymes involved in the processing of oxytocin, ADH, and cholecystokinin. It participates in steroidogenesis in the adrenal glands. It reduces iron (III) to iron (II) in the intestine, promoting its absorption.

The main role in tissues is participation in the synthesis of collagen, proteoglycans, and other organic components of the intercellular substance of teeth, bones, and capillary endothelium.

In low doses (150-250 mg/day orally), it improves the complex-forming function of deferoxamine in chronic intoxication with Fe preparations, leading to increased excretion of the latter.

Indications

• As a multivitamin antioxidant preparation, Antioxycaps is indicated for the prevention of vitamin (C, E, A) deficiency.

Dosage Regimen

Administer Antioxycaps orally after meals with a sufficient amount of water.

For preventive supplementation in adults and children aged 14 years and older, prescribe one capsule once daily.

Continue the preventive course for a duration of one to three months.

Repeat the preventive course several times per year as medically indicated.

Do not exceed the recommended daily dosage.

Avoid concomitant use with other multivitamin preparations to prevent potential overdose.

Discontinue use and consult a physician if adverse reactions such as allergic symptoms or skin yellowing occur.

Adverse Reactions

Allergic reactions to individual components of the drug are possible. With prolonged use of the drug, the Betacarotene contained in the capsules may cause yellowing of the skin and a change in urine color; these phenomena are safe, do not require discontinuation of the drug, and disappear after stopping the intake. Cases of urticaria caused by parabens are known. They usually cause a delayed type reaction, such as contact dermatitis, and may be the cause of an immediate type reaction with urticaria and bronchospasm.

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug;
• Children under 14 years of age;
• Pregnancy and breastfeeding period.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

The drug is contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Pediatric Use

Contraindicated for children under 14 years of age.

Special Precautions

During the use of the drug, the consumption of alcoholic beverages should be avoided.

Effect on the ability to drive vehicles and machinery

No effect.

Overdose

Symptoms: nausea, diarrhea, skin redness, and other nonspecific symptoms (insomnia, irritability, frequent urination, abdominal pain of a spasmodic nature, hypoglycemia, nephrolithiasis).

Treatment: discontinuation of the drug, symptomatic therapy.

Drug Interactions

Glucocorticosteroids, tetracycline group antibiotics, as well as ethanol and ethanol-containing drugs, when used concomitantly, reduce the therapeutic effect of beta-carotene.

Do not take simultaneously with other multivitamin preparations to avoid overdose.

Storage Conditions

In a dry place, protected from light, at a temperature from 15°C (59°F) to 25°C (77°F). Keep out of reach of children.
