Pharmacological Action

Bryonia is a climbing perennial plant with a large rhizome. In homeopathy, the Bryonia base is used. The mother tincture is prepared from the fresh underground parts of the plant.

Chemical Composition

  • Sterols;
  • Unsaturated fatty acids;
  • Triterpenes;
  • Lectins;
  • Cucurbitacin heterosides, structurally similar to corticosteroids.

Indications

Key symptoms for prescribing the drug

  • Pain syndrome with clear pinpoint localization, worsening with movement;
  • Intense thirst with a need for large amounts of cold water;
  • Dryness of mucous membranes (oral cavity, nose, etc.), damage to mucous membranes;
  • Pain in the right hypochondrium, accompanied by bouts of nausea;
  • Stomach area sensitive to palpation;
  • Dizziness.

Main cases of clinical application

Infectology

In infectology, the prescription is especially common for pulmonary pathology and ENT diseases.

All febrile syndromes, including

  • Intense thirst;
  • Prostration accompanied by sweating, which brings relief;
  • Influenza and influenza-like conditions;
  • Infectious diseases of various etiologies at the very beginning;
  • Mumps;
  • Rhinitis with dryness of mucous membranes, accompanied by intense thirst;
  • Tracheitis or bronchitis, in which the patient has a dry, painful cough that:
    • Worsens with the slightest movement, especially during auscultation, when talking, or when entering a warm room;
    • Accompanied by retrosternal or chest pain, with improvement when compressing the chest with hands to immobilize it.

Rheumatology

  • Arthralgia of various localizations, if worsening occurs from movement and improvement during rest;
  • Hydrarthrosis, rheumatic arthritis, acute transient synovitis (“irritable hip”), which have modalities inherent to this drug.

Gastroenterology

  • Dyspeptic syndrome;
  • Gastritis;
  • Colitis;
  • Constipation.

Gynecology

  • Mastitis, in which heaviness in the chest is felt, and pain occurs with the slightest movement;
  • Pain associated with the onset of milk*.

Inflammatory syndromes

  • Abdominal pain occurring after abdominal endoscopy;
  • Headaches occurring after epidural anesthesia;
  • Pericarditis;
  • Dizziness;
  • Dry eye syndrome of various origins (during menopause, prolonged stay in an air-conditioned room, Gougerot-Sjögren syndrome).

Dosage Regimen

The method of application and dosage regimen for a specific drug depend on its form of release and other factors. The optimal dosage regimen is determined by the doctor. It is necessary to strictly adhere to the compliance of the dosage form of a specific drug with the indications for use and dosage regimen.

Granules

Sublingually.

The granules should be dissolved in the mouth 30 minutes before meals or 60 minutes after meals.

For children from 0 to 3 years old, the granules are first diluted by shaking in 10-15 ml of water at room temperature and given to drink.

The optimal amount per dose is 5 granules.

Consultation with a doctor is necessary to determine the dilution, frequency, and duration of administration.

Ointment

For upper respiratory tract diseases: rub the ointment on the chest and back 1-2 times a day followed by warm wrapping.

For joint diseases, apply the ointment in a thin layer to the painful areas 1-2 times a day.
