Pharmacological Action

Herbal remedy. The active substances contained in calamus rhizomes, mainly essential oil and the bitter glycoside acorin, act on the endings of the taste nerves, increase appetite, improve digestion, and reflexively enhance the secretion of gastric juice.

It has some spasmolytic, anti-inflammatory (due to terpenoids proazulene and asarone), choleretic, diuretic, and sedative effects.

It exerts a bacteriostatic effect on strains of Shigella and Proteus. It has local irritant properties.

Indications

For oral administration: anorexia, chronic gastritis, dyspepsia of various origins, biliary dyskinesia, chronic cholecystitis.

For external and local use: articular rheumatism, gum diseases, tonsillitis.

Dosage Regimen

The method of application and dosage regimen for a specific drug depend on its form of release and other factors. The optimal dosage regimen is determined by the doctor. It is necessary to strictly adhere to the compliance of the dosage form of a specific drug with the indications for use and dosage regimen.

Herbal raw material

About 10 g (2 tablespoons) of crushed rhizomes are placed in an enamel bowl, poured with 200 ml (1 glass) of hot boiled water, covered with a lid, and heated in a boiling water bath for 15 minutes, cooled at room temperature for 45 minutes, strained, and the remaining raw material is squeezed out.

The volume of the resulting infusion is adjusted to 200 ml with boiled water.

Take orally warm, 1/4 glass 3-4 times a day 30 minutes before meals. The course of treatment is 2-3 weeks. The infusion should be shaken before use.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to calamus preparations, pregnancy, breastfeeding period, children under 12 years of age.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

Contraindicated for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Use in Hepatic Impairment

Used as an infusion for diseases of the biliary tract.

Use in Renal Impairment

No specific restrictions.

Pediatric Use

Contraindicated for use in children under 12 years of age.

Geriatric Use

No specific restrictions.

Special Precautions

Avoid long-term use of calamus preparations.

Store the prepared infusion in a cool place for no more than 2 days.

Storage Conditions

Store at 2°C (36°F) to 25°C (77°F). Keep in original packaging, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
