The mother tincture, prepared from whole dried insects, contains: cantharidin, which causes

  • A local reaction, namely redness of the skin or the appearance of blisters with cloudy contents (phlyctena);
  • A general reaction, namely damage to the genitourinary system.

The tincture also contains

  • Uric acid, acetic acid;
  • Choline and acetylcholine;
  • Fats and cholesterol;
  • Calcium and magnesium phosphates.
