Pharmacological Action

The complex of biologically active substances of the plants that are part of the drug Diarex-Himalaya provides the drug with antidiarrheal, antimicrobial, antioxidant, antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory action.

The plants in the drug exhibit a wide spectrum of pharmacological activity.

Antimicrobial activity against E. coli — Aegle marmelos, Punica granatum, Tinospora cordifolia, Holarrhena antidysenterica; against S. typhi — Aegle marmelos, Holarrhena antidysenterica; against V. cholerae – Punica granatum, Aegle marmelos; inhibit the growth of Salmonella — Holarrhena antidysenterica, Aegle marmelos; growth of Shigella — Holarrhena antidysenterica.

Amebicidal action is exhibited by Holarrhena antidysenterica, Tinospora cordifolia, Aegle marmelos, Punica granatum.

Anthelmintic action is possessed by Punica granatum, Aegle marmelos, Cyperus rotundus.

Holarrhena antidysenterica, Aegle marmelos and Punica granatum have antidiarrheal properties due to their effect on the hypersecretory phase of acute and chronic infectious diarrhea.

Astringent action in diarrhea of various origins is provided by Punica granatum, Holarrhena antidysenterica.

Demulcent, adsorbent and protective properties — calcinated mollusk shell.

Antioxidant and cytoprotective action Tinospora cordifolia, Aegle marmelos, Punica granatum and Cyperus rotundus have a powerful antioxidant membrane-stabilizing effect.

Anti-inflammatory activity Aegle marmelos, Cyperus rotundus and Punica granatum help reduce the severity of gastrointestinal inflammation.

Tinospora cordifolia is known as an effective immunomodulatory agent with hepatoprotective and antiulcer action.

Antispasmodic and motility-normalizing action Aegle marmelos reduces stomach spasms and pain; Cyperus rotundus is effective for intestinal motility disorders. The drug does not disrupt the natural intestinal microflora.

The synergistic action of the components determines the effectiveness of the drug Diarex-Himalaya in acute and chronic diarrhea of various origins, irritable bowel syndrome and dysbiosis.

Dosage Regimen

The method of application and dosage regimen for a specific drug depend on its form of release and other factors. The optimal dosage regimen is determined by the doctor. It is necessary to strictly adhere to the compliance of the dosage form of a specific drug with the indications for use and dosage regimen.

Orally. Between meals.

Children from 6 to 14 years — 1 tab. 2 times/day.

Adults and children over 14 years — 2 tabs 2 times/day.

The duration of the treatment course for acute diarrhea is 2-7 days.

The duration of the therapy course for chronic diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome, dysbiosis — from 2 to 6 weeks.

If necessary, after a 2-week break, the therapy course can be repeated.

In severe forms of diarrhea, the frequency and duration of administration can be increased.

Adverse Reactions

Allergic reactions are possible.

Contraindications

  • Intestinal obstruction;
  • Acute dysentery with stool containing blood and fever;
  • Children under 6 years of age;
  • Hypersensitivity to the drug components.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

It is not recommended to prescribe the drug to pregnant women. During lactation, the issue of discontinuing breastfeeding should be considered.

Pediatric Use

Contraindicated in children under 6 years of age.

Children from 6 to 14 years — 1 tab. 2 times/day.

Special Precautions

It is necessary to monitor for symptoms of water-electrolyte imbalance and take measures to eliminate them by replenishing lost fluid and electrolytes. If diarrhea symptoms do not disappear within three days of treatment, or the patient’s condition worsens, the drug should be discontinued and a physician, infectious disease specialist or gastroenterologist should be consulted.

Overdose

No overdose data available. In case of overdose, symptomatic treatment is applied.

Drug Interactions

The drug can be used with other medications used to relieve diarrhea syndrome.

The use of the drug in combination with antibiotics, antiviral agents and intestinal antiseptics increases the effectiveness of therapy and reduces the severity of side effects of chemotherapy.

Concomitant use with adsorbents, astringents and demulcents may lead to a decrease in the drug’s effectiveness, so at least 3 hours should pass between taking the drug and the adsorbent.

Storage Conditions

Store the drug in a dry place at a temperature from 10°C (50°F) to 30°C (86°F). Keep out of reach of children.

Shelf Life

Shelf life – 3 years.

Do not use after the expiration date.
