Clinical-Pharmacological Group

Herbal preparation with hepatoprotective and choleretic action

Pharmacotherapeutic Group

Hepatoprotective agent of plant origin

Pharmacological Action

A combined herbal preparation. It has hepatoprotective, antitoxic, anti-inflammatory, choleretic, antioxidant, and antianorexic action. It helps to improve the process of digestion and food absorption.

The hepatoprotective effect of Liv. 52® is due to the antioxidant and membrane-stabilizing properties of its components. The drug increases the level of endogenous tocopherols in hepatocytes and the level of cytochrome P450. Liv. 52® stimulates the biosynthesis of proteins and phospholipids. It promotes the restoration of hepatocytes, reduces degenerative, fatty, and fibrotic changes, and enhances intracellular metabolism.

The drug regulates the level of blood plasma proteins, normalizing the albumin/globulin ratio. It ensures normalization of the levels of plasma transaminases, cholesterol, triglycerides, reducing the manifestations of dyslipidemia. It reduces bilirubin and alkaline phosphatase levels. It increases the liver’s ability to store glycogen.

It improves the colloidal properties of bile, preventing the formation of gallstones. It improves the contractile function of the gallbladder.

It stimulates hematopoiesis.

In alcoholic liver damage, the drug reduces the level of ethanol in the blood and urine; increases the activity of acetaldehyde dehydrogenase, which helps to reduce the level of acetaldehyde; prevents the binding of acetaldehyde to cell proteins, accelerating its excretion. By preventing the damaging effect of acetaldehyde on hepatocytes, the drug reduces the risk of developing a “hangover” syndrome.

Pharmacokinetics

The therapeutic effect of Liv. 52® is due to the combined action of its components, so conducting kinetic observations is not possible.
