Pharmacological Action

Magnesia carbonica is basic magnesium carbonate.

It is a white, odorless, and tasteless powder that is almost insoluble in water. The powder must contain from 40 to 45% MgO.

In medium doses, magnesium carbonate produces a mild laxative effect.

It is also an antacid and reduces the acidity of gastric juice; it has a diuretic effect.

Indications

Key symptoms for prescribing the drug

• Acute shooting pains (neuropathic).

Main cases of clinical application

Gastroenterology

• Dyspepsia with sour belching and bloating, aggravated by the consumption of dairy products;

• Diarrhea in infants with lactose intolerance (frothy green stool “like frog spawn”);

• Constipation in infants with whitish and soft, putty-like stool.

Pain treatment

For any pains with the following characteristics

• Facial nerve neuralgia (especially on the left);

• Toothache and nocturnal dental neuralgia;

• Brachial neuralgia, scapulohumeral periarthritis (especially on the right), aggravated at night or during rest;
• Barré-Liéou syndrome with pain in the cervico-occipital region, which spreads to the parietal region and is accompanied by dizziness.

Gynecology

• Premenstrual rhinitis or pharyngitis, sore throat during menstruation;

• Dysmenorrhea with oligomenorrhea.

Behavioral disorders

• Spasmophilia in thin children or in individuals suffering from dyspepsia with sour belching.

Ophthalmology

• Blepharitis associated with dry eye disease.

Dosage Regimen

Sublingually.

The granules must be dissolved in the mouth 30 min before meals or 60 min after meals.

For children from 0 to 3 years old, the granules are first diluted by shaking in 10-15 ml of water at room temperature and given to drink.

The optimal amount per dose is 5 granules.

Consultation with a doctor is necessary to determine the potency, frequency, and duration of administration.

• Lactose intolerance.
