Pharmacological Action

It is a herbal remedy. It is contained in the leaves and stems of peppermint. The essential oil is primarily composed of menthol, menthone, pinenes, dipentene, phellandrene, cineole, pulegone, jasmone, and esters of menthol with valeric and acetic acids.

It has anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects, causes local vasoconstriction, reduces skin itching, reflexively dilates blood vessels of the heart, brain, and lungs; increases appetite, reduces nausea, vomiting, hiccups, enhances salivation, intestinal peristalsis, has a carminative effect, helps reduce pressure inside the colon and reduces flatulence.

Menthol and other components of the essential oil have a spasmolytic effect on the smooth muscles of the gastrointestinal tract and urinary tract, and mildly stimulate the secretion of the digestive glands. Expectorant, mucolytic, and moderate antihypoxic effects are preserved during inhalations with peppermint oil.

It has antiseptic, deodorizing, and refreshing properties.

Indications

As part of complex therapy as an analgesic, spasmolytic, carminative, choleretic, disinfectant, and deodorizing agent.

Dosage Regimen

The method of application and dosage regimen for a specific drug depend on its form of release and other factors. The optimal dosage regimen is determined by the doctor. It is necessary to strictly adhere to the compliance of the dosage form of a specific drug with the indications for use and dosage regimen.

For oral administration. Swallow tablets whole with a sufficient amount of water. Do not crush or chew the tablets to preserve the enteric coating and prevent premature release of the active substance.

Take one to two tablets two to three times daily. Adhere to a consistent dosing schedule, preferably between meals.

Do not exceed the maximum daily dose of six tablets. The duration of treatment depends on the indication and clinical response; do not use for prolonged periods without medical consultation.

For relief of abdominal pain or flatulence, use as needed. For chronic conditions like cholecystitis or biliary dyskinesia, use as part of a longer-term regimen as directed by a physician.

Discontinue use and consult a physician if symptoms persist or worsen after several days of therapy. In patients with known cholelithiasis, use oral preparations with caution and only under medical supervision.

Adverse Reactions

Possible allergic reactions, irritation of the oral mucosa.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to peppermint, inflammatory diseases of the oral mucosa.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

During pregnancy and breastfeeding, it should be used after consultation with a doctor, in cases where the intended benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus or infant.

Pediatric Use

It can be used in children according to indications, in age-appropriate recommended doses and dosage forms. It is necessary to strictly follow the instructions in the leaflets of peppermint oil preparations regarding contraindications for the use of specific dosage forms of peppermint oil in children of different ages.

Special Precautions

In patients with cholelithiasis, drugs containing Peppermint oil intended for oral administration should be used with caution.

Store at 2°C (36°F) to 25°C (77°F). Keep in original packaging, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
