Pharmacological Action

Oleum abies, when applied externally, exerts anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and local irritant effects.

Indications

As a local analgesic in adults for

  • Pain syndrome caused by diseases of the nervous system (radiculitis, neuritis, plexalgia, neuralgia);
  • Diseases of the musculoskeletal system (including arthralgia, arthritis, myositis, synovitis);
  • During periods of exacerbation and for the purpose of preventing exacerbations.

In sports medicine as a warming massage agent

  • In cases of tendon and muscle strain.

Dosage Regimen

The method of application and dosage regimen for a specific drug depend on its form of release and other factors. The optimal dosage regimen is determined by the doctor. It is necessary to strictly adhere to the compliance of the dosage form of a specific drug with the indications for use and dosage regimen.

Oil

Oleum abies is applied to the skin in the area of pain and rubbed in with light circular movements for 2-3 minutes. Then compress paper is applied and covered with a warm woolen cloth for several hours, preferably overnight. The therapeutic effect is enhanced if dry heat is used locally before application. It is used daily for 2-10 days; the treatment course is repeated after 1-2 weeks.

Adverse Reactions

In isolated cases, local allergic reactions in the form of moderate skin redness are possible.

Contraindications

  • Acute infectious diseases;
  • Tumors of the peripheral nervous system;
  • Skin diseases (including dermatitis of bacterial, fungal, and viral etiology);
  • Impaired skin integrity;
  • Pregnancy, lactation period.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

Contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation.

Special Precautions

Avoid contact with the mucous membrane of the eyes. In case of contact, rinse eyes with a 2% solution of baking soda or water. The drug should not be applied to damaged skin (abrasions, wounds, etc.).

Effect on ability to drive vehicles and mechanisms

Does not affect the ability to drive vehicles and engage in other potentially hazardous activities requiring increased concentration and speed of psychomotor reactions.

Overdose

If applied excessively to the skin, fir oil may cause increased heart activity, as it penetrates deeply into the body through the skin, and allergic reactions are also possible.

Storage Conditions

In a place protected from light, at a temperature not exceeding 25°C (77°F). Keep out of reach of children!

Shelf Life

Shelf life – 2 years.
