. Pharmacological action

Bacteriostatic antibiotic from the macrolide group. When applied externally, it has an antibacterial and anti-acne effect. Reversibly binds to the 50S subunit of ribosomes, which disrupts the formation of peptide bonds between amino acid molecules and blocks the synthesis of microbial proteins (does not affect the synthesis of nucleic acids). When used in high doses, depending on the type of pathogen, it can show a bactericidal effect.

The spectrum of action includes gram-positive (Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., Bacillus anthracis, Corynebacterium diphtheriae) and gram-negative (Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Haemophilus influenzae, Bordetella pertussis, Brucella spp., Legionella spp. )microorganisms, as well as Mycoplasma spp., Chlamidia spp., Treponema spp., Rickettsia spp.

Gram-negative bacilli Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, as well as Shigella spp., Bacteroides fragilis, Enterobacter spp. are resistant to the drug. Etc.

Indications

Infections of the skin and soft tissues (pustular skin diseases, including juvenile acne, infected wounds, bedsores, burns of the II-III degree, trophic ulcers).

Contraindications

Individual hypersensitivity.

Side effects

Possible development of allergic reactions and irritating effect (redness, itching).

With prolonged use, a secondary infection caused by erythromycin-resistant microorganisms may develop.

Interaction

The drug is incompatible with lincomycin, clindamycin, chloramphenicol (antagonism).

Reduces the bactericidal effect of beta-lactam antibiotics (penicillins, cephalosporins, carbopenems).

When erythromycin dosage forms for external use are used simultaneously with abrasive substances that lead to excessive skin irritation, as well as with drugs that cause skin peeling, a cumulative irritating or drying effect is possible.

How to take, course of administration and dosage

Externally: the ointment is applied to the affected areas of the skin 2-3 times a day, the duration of treatment is 1.5-2 months. For purulent diseases of the skin and soft tissues, the ointment is applied to the affected area of the skin in a thin layer 1-2 times a day after removing necrotic masses and pus, for burns-2-3 times a week. The duration of treatment depends on the form and severity of the disease and ranges from a few days to 2 weeks.

Overdose

There are no data on overdose of the drug.

Special instructions

At least 1 hour should elapse before using any other topical anti-acne medication.

If the condition of acne does not improve within 3-4 weeks, you should consult a doctor (it may take 2-3 months to achieve the full therapeutic effect).

With prolonged use, superinfection may develop.
