Pharmacological Action

A herbal preparation. Fresh nettle leaves contain histamine, serotonin, acetylcholine, formic acid, leukotrienes, flavonoids (including rutin, isoquercitrin, astragalin, kaempferol-3-O-rutinoside), silicic acid, essential oil, potassium ions, nitrates. Nettle juice has a diuretic effect, and several studies have shown its efficacy in rheumatism.

The hemostatic properties of nettle leaves are associated with their vitamin K content. Furthermore, the biologically active substances in nettle leaves contribute to the stimulation of erythropoiesis, normalization of lipid metabolism, exert a choleretic and anti-inflammatory action, and help improve regeneration processes. Galenic preparations of nettle increase the contractile activity of the uterine smooth muscle.

Nettle root contains steroids (including beta-sitosterol, stigmasterol, campesterol, stigmast-4-en-3-one), lecithins, polysaccharides (glucans, glucogalacturonans, acid water-soluble arabinogalactans with an immunostimulating effect), hydroxycoumarins (scopoletin), lignans, ceramides. It has been shown that nettle root contributes to an increase in urine volume, increases the maximum urine flow, and reduces the amount of residual urine.

Indications

As part of combination therapy: urinary tract infections, urolithiasis, rheumatism, bleeding, atherosclerosis, iron deficiency anemia, symptomatic treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia.

Dosage Regimen

The method of application and dosage regimen for a specific drug depend on its form of release and other factors. The optimal dosage regimen is determined by the doctor. It is necessary to strictly adhere to the compliance of the dosage form of a specific drug with the indications for use and dosage regimen.

Administer orally.

For herbal raw material (cut-pressed herb): prepare an infusion. Pour 1-2 tablespoons (4-8 g) of raw material into an enamel bowl, add 200 ml (1 cup) of boiled water at room temperature. Heat in a boiling water bath for 15 minutes, cool at room temperature for 45 minutes, then strain. Bring the volume of the resulting infusion to 200 ml with boiled water.

Take the prepared infusion warmed, 1 tablespoon 3-4 times daily, 30 minutes before meals. Shake the infusion before use.

For powder: take 1/2-1 teaspoon (1-2 g) with water, 3-4 times daily with meals.

For liquid extract: take 15-30 drops, 3-4 times daily with a small amount of water.

The duration of treatment is determined by the indication and clinical response. A typical treatment course is 2-4 weeks. For benign prostatic hyperplasia, treatment may extend for several months under medical supervision.

Adjust the dose and regimen individually based on the specific indication, patient response, and dosage form used.

Do not exceed the recommended daily dose.

Adverse Reactions

Rarelyallergic reactions.

When using nettle root preparations, rarely – mild undesirable effects from the gastrointestinal tract.

Contraindications

Fluid retention in the body due to impaired cardiac activity or renal function.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

Not recommended for use during pregnancy.

Contraindicated for use during lactation (breastfeeding).

Use in Renal Impairment

Contraindication: fluid retention in the body due to impaired renal function.

Pediatric Use

Not recommended for use in children under 12 years of age.

Special Precautions

The prepared infusion should be stored in a cool place for no more than 2 days.

Drug Interactions

With the simultaneous use of nettle leaf extract and diclofenac, the effect of the latter may be enhanced.

Storage Conditions

Store at 15°C (59°F) to 25°C (77°F). Keep in original packaging, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
