Pharmacological Action
Veratrum album (White Hellebore) is a plant with alternate leaves and greenish flowers, growing in high mountain pastures.
The mother tincture is prepared from the fresh fleshy rhizome, harvested in early June, before the flowering period.
The pharmacological action of the plant is due to a mixture of alkaloids, the most common of which is jervine, which has a sedative and bradycardic effect, but the most toxic is protoverine. The mother tincture also contains germine, which has an antihypertensive effect and a tonic effect on muscles.
