Dietary supplement – source of magnesium
Indications
- For use as a dietary supplement to provide magnesium to the diet.
- To help support and maintain normal muscle function, including reducing the frequency and intensity of muscle cramps and spasms.
- To contribute to the maintenance of normal neurological function and psychological health, aiding in the reduction of fatigue and exhaustion.
- To support normal energy-yielding metabolism and electrolyte balance within the body.
- To aid in the maintenance of normal bone structure and teeth.
It is important to note that this product is a dietary supplement and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. The indications are based on the established physiological roles of magnesium in the human body.
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to magnesium citrate or to any of the auxiliary substances listed in the composition of the tablets.
- Severe renal impairment (e.g., end-stage renal disease, severe chronic kidney disease with a glomerular filtration rate (GFR) below 30 mL/min) due to the high risk of magnesium accumulation and toxicity.
- Patients with myasthenia gravis, as magnesium can exacerbate muscle weakness.
- Patients with severe bradycardia or atrioventricular block, as magnesium can further depress cardiac conduction.
- Individuals with acute diarrhea or intestinal obstruction, as the supplement may worsen these conditions.
Consult a healthcare professional before use if you have any pre-existing medical conditions, particularly kidney problems or heart conditions.
Dosage Regimen
| The method of application and dosage regimen for a specific drug depend on its form of release and other factors. The optimal dosage regimen is determined by the doctor. It is necessary to strictly adhere to the compliance of the dosage form of a specific drug with the indications for use and dosage regimen. |
The recommended adult dosage is two tablets (400 mg of magnesium) once daily, unless otherwise directed by a healthcare provider.
The tablets should be taken orally, swallowed whole with a full glass of water. They can be taken with or without food, although taking them with a meal may help to minimize any potential gastrointestinal discomfort.
Do not exceed the stated recommended daily dose. The duration of use is not limited; however, it is advisable to consult a physician for prolonged continuous use to ensure it remains appropriate for your individual health status.
Adverse Reactions
Vivacia Magnesium Citrate is generally well-tolerated when taken at the recommended dosage. However, some individuals may experience adverse reactions, primarily gastrointestinal in nature.
Common adverse reactions may include mild and transient effects such as diarrhea, abdominal cramping, soft stools, or nausea. These effects are often dose-dependent and may subside as the body adjusts to the supplement or if the dose is reduced.
Less common adverse reactions can include more pronounced gastrointestinal upset, flatulence, or a laxative effect. In rare cases, allergic reactions such as skin rash, itching, or urticaria may occur.
At very high doses, exceeding the recommended intake, symptoms of magnesium toxicity may develop. These are serious and include profound hypotension, drowsiness, confusion, loss of deep tendon reflexes, flushing, muscle weakness, and cardiac arrhythmias. If any severe or persistent adverse reactions occur, discontinue use immediately and seek medical attention.
Drug Interactions
Magnesium supplements can interact with several classes of medications, potentially altering their effectiveness or increasing the risk of adverse effects.
Oral Tetracycline and Quinolone Antibiotics (e.g., ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin): Magnesium can form insoluble complexes with these antibiotics in the gastrointestinal tract, significantly reducing their absorption and efficacy. A dosing separation of at least 2 to 4 hours before or 4 to 6 hours after taking the magnesium supplement is strongly recommended.
Bisphosphonates (e.g., alendronate, risedronate): Similar to antibiotics, magnesium can impair the absorption of oral bisphosphonates used for osteoporosis. These medications should be taken at a different time of day, at least 60 minutes before the magnesium supplement.
Potassium-Sparing Diuretics (e.g., spironolactone, amiloride, triamterene) and ACE Inhibitors (e.g., lisinopril, enalapril): Concomitant use with magnesium supplements may increase the risk of hypermagnesemia (elevated magnesium levels in the blood), particularly in patients with renal impairment.
Muscle Relaxants and CNS Depressants: Magnesium may have additive effects with these agents, potentially increasing the risk of excessive sedation and respiratory depression. Caution is advised.
Inform your doctor or pharmacist about all the products you use, including prescription, over-the-counter medicines, and other herbal or dietary supplements.
Overdose
Overdose with Vivacia Magnesium Citrate is unlikely from dietary supplementation alone but could occur with excessive intentional ingestion or in individuals with significant renal impairment.
Symptoms of overdose are consistent with magnesium toxicity (hypermagnesemia) and may progress from nausea, vomiting, and flushing to more severe manifestations including lethargy, confusion, a significant drop in blood pressure, bradycardia (slow heart rate), electrocardiogram (ECG) changes, respiratory depression, coma, and cardiac arrest.
In cases of suspected overdose, discontinue the supplement immediately and seek emergency medical attention. Treatment is supportive and may include gastric lavage if ingestion was recent, administration of intravenous calcium gluconate or calcium chloride to antagonize the effects of magnesium, and in severe cases, hemodialysis to rapidly remove magnesium from the bloodstream.
