Properties
Polyunsaturated fatty acids of the omega-3 class – eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) are essential fatty acids (EFA). They reduce the concentration of triglycerides by reducing the concentration of VLDL. They suppress the synthesis of thromboxane A2 and slightly increase blood clotting time. They do not have a significant effect on other blood clotting factors. They delay the synthesis of triglycerides in the liver (by inhibiting the esterification of EPA and DHA).
The most well-known and well-studied polyunsaturated acids of the omega-6 class are linoleic and arachidonic. Adequate levels of these acids in the body are of great importance for the functioning of the cardiovascular system, carbohydrate metabolism, and during growth and development.
The beneficial properties of fish oil are due to the presence of omega-3 PUFAs and vitamins A and D. The most important omega-3 PUFA acids are: alpha-linolenic, eicosapentaenoic (EPA) and docosahexaenoic (DHA), which have a positive effect on the state of the cardiovascular and nervous systems. They help regulate the cholesterol content in the blood, thereby protecting the arteries from the formation of cholesterol deposits, participate in fat metabolism and lower blood pressure. Fish oil is beneficial for joint diseases and immunological disorders and is used for skin diseases.
Flaxseed oil has important health-promoting properties. Its composition includes a number of vitamins, omega-3 and omega-6 PUFAs, as well as omega-9 monounsaturated fatty acids. The composition of Omega-6 PUFA includes linoleic acid, which plays an important role in metabolic processes. It helps regulate fat and protein metabolism, prevents the accumulation of cholesterol in blood vessels, prevents the formation of blood clots, and protects cells from premature aging. Linoleic acid has immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory effects.
The composition of olive oil includes oleic, linolenic, linoleic acids, vitamins A, D, E, K. Regular intake helps reduce the incidence of cardiovascular diseases and has a positive effect on blood cholesterol levels. Olive oil has a sufficiently high level of omega-9 fatty acids (oleic acid), which are monounsaturated fats. It is oleic acid that is part of lipids – fats and fat-like substances, which are the most important component of cell membranes and ensure the normal course of many vital processes in the body. It helps strengthen the walls of blood vessels, making them more elastic, and also helps reduce the risk of vascular blockage and blood clot formation.
Vitamin E is necessary for the normal functioning of the immune system. It helps improve blood circulation, reduce the risk of thrombosis, and also prevent the deposition of cholesterol in the walls of blood vessels. It improves the supply of oxygen to the heart muscle and is involved in tissue respiration.
The use of polyunsaturated fatty acids omega-6 in combination with vitamin E helps reduce body weight.
In combination with fiber and vitamin B6, polyunsaturated fatty acids omega-6 eliminate dry skin, help with eczema and atopic dermatitis, improve calcium metabolism, reduce its loss during stress, and stimulate the healing of wounds, ulcers, and burns.
