Amoxicillin is a half-synthetic penicillin. It inhibits growth and multiplication of bacteria by destroying its cellular structure.
The drug is recommended to treat bacterial infections and the following diseases:
- Pneumonia and bronchitis
- Sinus, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, acute otitis media
- Pyelonephritis, pyelitis, cystitis, urethritis, gonorrhea, endometritis, cervicitis
- Peritonitis, cholecystitis, cholangitis
- Erysipelas, impetigo, infected dermatosis
- Leptospirosis, listeriosis, Lime disease
- Dysentery, salmonellosis
- Meningitis, endocarditis, sepsis
- Gastritis, gastric ulcer
Amoxicillin suspension:
Suspension is recommended for children under 5 years of age. Note: an antihistamine should be given to children 30 minutes prior to taking suspension. The suspension should be taken with plenty of water. The medicine can be used in newly born babies.
Suspension preparation:
Add water to the bottle until the indicated line and shake up well. The suspension is good during 14 days. Before every take, the suspension should be shaken. Note that 1 measure spoon (5ml) contains 250 mg of Amoxicillin.
Directions:
- One time dosage for adults and children 10 years of age and over (body weight no more than 40 kg) is 250-500mg; in case of acute symptoms to increase the dosage up to 1g.
- One time dosage for children 5-10 years of age is 250 mg; 2-5 years of age is 125 mg; for children under 2 years of age is 20mg/kg in 24 hours.
- Time interval between the intakes for adults and children should be no less than 8 hours.
In case of acute non-complicated gonorrhea the one time dosage is 3g (in combination with probenecid) for male and double dosage for female.
The course of treatment may take up to 5-12 days as determined by a doctor.
Side effects:
Common side effects are:
– Allergic reactions such as rash, shortness of breathe, swelling of face and limbs
– Gastrointestinal tract disturbance such as diarrhea, painful sensations in the abdomen area, nausea, lack of appetite.
Warnings:
Do not use if you have:
- allergic diathesis
- bronchial asthma
- pollinosis
- infected mononucleosis
- lymphatic leukemia
- hepatic insufficiency
- GIT diseases in anamnesis stage (especially colitis due to antibiotics treatment)
- If you are breast-feeding
- Hypersensitivity to penicillin, cephalosporin, carbapenems
