Ketanov is a drug of a powerful analgesic effect, it does not allow the acid production that causes pain, inflammation and fever. It belongs to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents; ketorolac is the active ingredient.
The analgesic effect of the drug begins when it enters the blood. Also, when administered intramuscularly, the effect is achieved quicker, stronger, but lasts less than when given orally. The medication is flushed out from the body through the liver and kidneys. If a person has disease of these organs, it doubles the time of flushing the drug out of the body.
Indications for use:
Ketanov is prescribed in form of tablets or solution for injection for intensive pain syndrome of different genesis for short-term use:
- Pain after surgeries
- Postpartum Pain
- Injuries of muscles, bones and soft tissues.
For short analgesic effect the medication can be taken for toothache, pain experienced after cancellation of narcotic drugs, liver and renal colic, osteochondrosis.
Dosage and administration:
Adults are prescribed to take Ketanov tablets 10 mg per intake, a similar dose is repeated if needed after 4 hours, no more than 4 times per day. Duration of therapy should not be performed for more than 5 days.
For adults the solution for injection Ketanov must be entered deeply into the muscle, a one-time dose is 10 – 30 mg every 4-6 hours, the duration of treatment – no more than 2 days.
Do not take Ketanov with the blood thinners to avoid bleeding, kedney failure medications and diuretics.
Will Ketanov help with headaches?
As already described above, Ketanov is a strong analgetic that is used in medicine for severe pain after surgery, childbirth and trauma. It helps with headaches analgesic, effect occurs within 30 minutes after taking a pill and lasts up to 3 hours.
However, experts do not recommend to use Ketanov for this purpose and advise to choose less powerful drugs. Sometimes, in some cases, taking Ketanov from headache can only amplify it and have negative consequences.
Side effects:
As with all medications, Ketanov also has side effects:
- the ardiovascular system – possible fainting, heart palpitations, bradycardia, changes in blood pressure indicators.
- the digestive system – rarely dryness of the mouth, the urge to vomit, diarrhea, bloating, constipation, gastritis, gastrointestinal tract disorder, liver disorders and more.
- the nervous system – possible dizziness attacks, euphoria, depression, insomnia or drowsiness, blurred vision and motor functions of the body.
- the respiratory system – rarely asthma and respiratory failure.
- the excretory system – frequent urination, acute kedney failure, oliguria, hematuria, polyuria, azotemia, proteinuria.
- the circulatory system – possible nose bleeding and wound bleeding after surgery, thrombocytopenia, anemia, eosinophilia.
- metabolism – rarely increased sweating, hypokalemia, oliguria, hyponatremia.
The use of Ketanov in treatment of pain attacks is not recommended to people who are engaged in work dependent on high concentration of attention, as well as drivers, as the drug reduces this function of the body.
Contraindications:
Ketanov is contraindicated for use in persons suffering from such diseases:
- Stomach ulcer and its exacerbation.
- Low blood clotting.
- Bronchial asthma.
- Brain or stomach hemorrhage.
- Swelling.
- Allergic reaction to the active substance of Ketanov, which are ketorolac and aspirin.
- Polyps.
- Liver and kidneys disorders.
