Cortexin is a neuroprotective of a new generation and relates to the group of nootropics. It consists of low molecular weight peptides, which are readily soluble in water. This allows it to penetrate the blood-brain barrier and have a positive impact on the recovery and regeneration of brain tissue.
Also, the drug has a neuroprotective, antipoptoze (slows down the processes of programmed self-destruction of cells), neurotrophic (stimulates metabolic reactions and gene expression) ability.
In many diseases of the central nervous system, its functioning is compromised. The most common example is patients after stroke, when they suffer from sensitivity disorders or have paresis (limited motor abilities) of the half of the body. In such cases, medication that could restore the recovery processes of lost functions of the patient is necessary.
Antioxidant effect of the drug is in its ability to reduce the level of oxidative stress, preventing the nerve cells from damage, caused by free radicals. It also helps cells to cope easier with oxygen starvation, increasing their survival in extreme conditions. All this leads to excellent results: the neuronal membranes stay longer in good condition, blood microcirculation increases, decreases vascular permeability and cholesterol and triglyceride levels return to normal.
Indications for use:
Cortexin is used in conditions, where there is a limitation of brain activity or its separate areas:
- Cerebrovascular disease
- Intracranial injury
- Mini-strokes (passing of cerebral blood supply)
- Hemorrhagic or ischemic stroke
- Cerebral infarction and its consequences
- Encephalopathy
- Encephalitis, encephalomyelitis, encefalomeningitis, myelitis of infectious or toxic origin
- Epilepsy
- Post-traumatic seizures
- Cerebral palsy
- Child’s development disorders
- Aphonia, language and study skills disorders
- Amnesia
- Problems with the intellectual development
- Disorders of the autonomic system, asthenia
- Learning difficulties in children
- Difficulties with psychomotor development
Product release form:
Available in the form of lyophilisate for preparation of the solution for intramuscular injection. There are 10 mg (adult dose) or 5 mg (pediatric dose) of the active substance in one package.
Dosage and administration:
Powder, contained in the bottle, must first be dissolved in 1.2 ml of water for injection, 0.9% sodium chloride, procaine or novocaine. The drug is introduced intramuscularly once a day every day. Adult dosage is 10 mg for 10 days; adult dosage is given to children weighing 20 kilograms and above, dosage of 0.5 mg / kg. is administered to children of less than 20 kg.
If necessary, the treatment can be repeated after 6 months. If the patient has an extensive ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke, then again, you can administer Cortexin in a week.
